We lost a server :p

We just moved into a new office building...today we lost a server...we can ping it fine...we just dont know where it is...

hehehehe...4 people are roaming the floor now looking for it...

i thought it was funny

I’m sure it’s long been lost in the forum archives but there was a true store of a University where they took inventory one time after like 5 years and were missing a server that was actually functional.

In the end someone noticed wires running into a wall that were plastered over. A phone call revealed that the wall had been added a few years back so someone broke through and there was the server sitting on a shelf behind the wall happy and fine for all those years. The drywall people actually built the shelf it turned out, I guess it seemed easier then calling IT to move the box.

heh, i lost a system for a while... could ping it just fine, but couldn't find it in the house.

Thats the problem with giving laptops to kids... they immediately get shoved somewhere ridiculous and forgotten about. Thankfully, it was just under my sisters bed....

Two years ago, Our company had a machine named Frodo. it Had a virus and IT could not find it. Turned out to be a lab machine that got setup for a few days and run then turned off and put on a shelf for a few weeks. The cycle would then repeat.

If you have remote access to the server, can you get it to run a program that makes the speaker beep. Worked a few weeks at a large mutal funds firm as a temp and they had done something like that to find a pc once.
