I bought a used WDC 250G SATA II drive back in September used off of Ebay. It seemed to be running hot. Some googling revealed that it was a problem with the temp sensor that couldn't be fixed with a firmware update. The drive actually runs 20C under what is reported. Nothing wrong with the drive, but it was occasionally annoying when running diagnostics. I emailed WD and got an advance RMA. They sent me a replacement drive and put an $85 hold on the company credit card against the old drive. I sent the old one back on 10/13. Never heard back from them. My online case # was never updated. After about 5 weeks, I called them and asked what was up with my RMA. After 10 minutes on hold, the woman said that, apparently, there was a problem with my returned drive, involving a missing sticker... but that's all the info she had. Since I bought it used off of Ebay, and it worked other than the false temp reading, I told her that if it was a hassle, just send me the drive back and bill me the $85, since I can always use another storage drive. She advised me to wait...
4 weeks later, our cc was billed for the $85, but still no drive. I called WD again and asked where my drive was. Seeing that they had decided to take no action on the original drive, 8 weeks seemed a long time to take to return a drive. They told me to wait a bit longer, and today the old drive showed up. 11 weeks to open a box, decide the RMA wasn't valid and ship it back to me in the original box. I really don't mind having the drive back. It'll be put to good use, but that's ridiculously long considering no repair was made, and I was billed for the new drive... oh well
