WD2500... Write freeze?

It seems that, whenever I have alot being written (by alot... I mean like 5-6 files being written at once 20-100kbps, like in a usual p2p environment) to my new WD2500 drive, my system freezes... I don't mean a BSOD or anything, I mean everything stops but my cursor... If I click around alot, eventually the cursor freezes up, and it might even play a constant "beep". Timing and results are erratic...

I say this because I've tried many BT apps and Limewire, and they all cause my computer to freeze when lots is being written...

I've tried copying a large set of files from one position on the drive to another, and everything was fine...

Any suggestions?

Check for DMA on the drive.

Also some harddrives just don't handle the massive number of read writes, that Bittorrent and some p2p clients rely on, well at all.

I replaced the dive with an older Maxtor I had kicking around... It seems that having may read/write operations to either disk (or my startup disk) results in a lockup... I just re-installed windows too... Any other suggestions?

have you tried the latest driver for the onboard controller from the manufacturer?
