Anyone has any recommandations as to which of the two drives (WD1001FALS caviar black or WD10EADS caviar green) would be better for a primary HD home usage?

Thanks

Id think the green is better. The "FALS" part would scare me o_O". Anyway if it is for storage get whichever is cheaper (most likely the green) unless you need the performance.

Performance is important as this will be my primary drive. From other readings, the black seems to be the performance drive and green is more for storage but I am still trying to see if the price difference is worth it, $20 difference over here.

Now, I am also considering a slightly smaller version of the black (WD6401AALS) as it would be considerably cheaper.

I have the WD1001FALS and the seeking noise is a little loud for my taste. I have several WD6400AAKS and they are darn near silent. I'd like to get a WD6401AALS to compare. But in general I wouldn't go with either as an OS drive.

Edit : by either I mean the WD1001FALS or the WD10EADS.

This is a comparison with the WD10EACS, which I think is the 4 head HD (and EADS is 3 head), so performance would likely be slights better for the Caviar Green than shown, but still a decent example. The black is WD's performance HD, Green is power savings/quiet drive. I have a green for storage, but if it was going to be my main drive, i'd definitely go black.

I have both drives.

Black drive is faster of course but the green drive runs alot cooler and lower power usage.

But for booting I would stick with black drives since they are faster. I use the green drive as storage for my movies and music.

I am using the Black FALS as my primary drive and it is very fast. I have it partitioned to 200GB (OS and Apps) and 731GB (General Purpose storage)
It is on sale at newegg for $94.99, but some people fear the way that newegg ships hard drives.
