Hello Hard-Forumer's

I was wondering if anyone knew if the Raptor 5 Yr. warranty was transferrable?

I just bought one from Newegg for my new rig, and probably will sell it when the new Flash cache/perpendicular drives come out next year. It seems to me selling a harddisk would be easier if the warranty was transferrable.

Yes *

Hard drive warranties are transferrable, for the most part. The drive must remain in the same region (North America, Europe, etc). Also, WD tracks reports of stolen drives, and will collect a drive that has been reported as stolen, keep it, void the warranty, and no restitution will be offered that submits a stolen drive for warranty service. Also, WD will not offer a warranty on "gray market" drives that are intended for OEM systems. I'm reasonably sure none of these conditions apply to you.

For the most part, hard drive warranties are transferrable. Like it was said earlier, the maker simply tracks the serial number, and when/where to it was shipped.

I'm pretty sure this question was already answered before the deletions. Why weren't those posts left in place?

Like I told you before, yes it's transferable and yes there is a warranty on OEM drives. WD doesn't know which computer you pulled the drive out of. I know. I've RMA'ed TONS of WD and Fujitsu HDDs.

And by the way, you seem like a good guy. ;)

thx all

good to know my new harddisk and dbl-lifetime warranty XFX card will be re-sellable for highest dollaer since they have warranties

I can see being reluctant to buy used electronic items, but when they have warranties you just cant fuss.
