I never really had a problem with my SATA coming off from vibration or anything, but when I would work on my case it use to come off and has caused me trouble because I didn't know which drive had which cable.

Did I mention, it's more flexable and it BLUE!!!!

From my own experiences though, I agree that they're a great idea and I use them on all my drives.

Almost 2 years ago, the sata connector broke one of my 74GB Raptors after less than a month with a regular cable (the plastic that supports the metal leads). The regular cable still kinda worked, but I was running raid 0 at the time (not anymore) and having a questionable connection a striped drive was not fun. I ordered some of the secure connects soon after that happened and haven't had any problems since. Even on the broken drive.

Only problems are they only work with WD drives and they don't allow use of SATA power cables, but that's fine with me. I only own WD and have no problems with molex.

Regular SATA connections will alway worry me (even at the motherboard).
 
retarded question about this cable..... why the hell didn't they make a passthru for the SATA power connector? Doesn't seem like it would compromise stability......
 
Where does it get it's power from? Surely the SATA controller can't power a harddisk and more... could it? Do you have to additionally power the drive with a 4 pin molex?

of course this rather silly design choice means that in order to maintain compatibility, every WD SATA hard drive from here on out will REQUIRE a molex connector..... so much for progress......

Yes especially if my new powersupply got a few SATA power connectors... I own 2 WD and if they didn't require the use of molex, I would have bought them asap.
 
i think the design if aweful. It would make sense if they included a SATA power connector with it.
 
Where there is a need there is money to be made, so hopefully I can throw some cash at the first company that developes a sata connector that's secure and doesnt screw up the sata power connector.
 
Whoever designed the physical specifications of the SATA connecter should be shot. Even before I ever used one my first thought was what a POS. I havent broken one OFF yet, but I have cracked the plastic around one off.
 
The good ole IDE connector is the most secure I think. SATA always feels flimsy. But both work and get the job done.
 
why couldn't a sata connector be just like a mini version of an ata connector? the cables would be more flexible and the connections more secure...... kind of like the connectors on low-profile VGA cards to connect the analog port?
 
I'm not sure what your guys complaints are really, I had to wire all 8 of my drives up and they work fine. I'm not sure how WD can require molex connectors on all new drives anyways since SATA hot swap requires SATA hot swap power and not molex. Molex typically has very flimsy ends anyways.

click on the link in the original post and look at how the cable we are discussing effectively TOTALLY blocks the SATA power connector..... and since this cable is supposed to be compatible with all WD SATA drives, this means that in order to maintain that compatibility, WD needs to keep including a molex......this is what we are complaining about......
