Hello everyone, I picked up a 320gb Western Digital Sata hard drive and Im having a small problem. I installed the hard drive and installed the software that came with it, Data lifeguard. I guess this software is needed to format the drive and get it working. After I installed it I tried to run the program but the program wont open. When I click it the hour glass mouse icon pops up for a couple seconds but then nothing else happens. I tried formating the drive using the Data Lifeguard Dos version and had no problems except for 1 thing. It can format the hard drive larger then 127gb. I cant figure out why I can get the Windows version to work. Is there any other way to get the drive working?

Try and see if theres a more updated version of the software on their website.
If this is a 2nd drive then right click on "My Computer" choose "Manage" go down to "Disk Management" and in there delete the 127GB partition that you created, and then create a new one the full size of the drive.
You must have at least XP SP1 or SP2 installed to use more than 127GB.

Well you can always use the "brute force" method of downloading the UBCD and using one of the partition managers there to create the partiton, then just format it in windows.

Just make sure you don't accidentally do anything to the other drive.
My initial reaction to the windows disk management not working is that the sofware from WD is messing it up.. Hard drives don't need software or drivers, uninstall that junk.

You need sp2 integrated into the install to install to a drive larger than 127GB, it's possible once the system is up and running, without sp2, to install a drive larger than 127GB and use it.
