1. I just want to be clear there are no differences other than "clear" cover between the Raptor X and Raptor right?

2. OEM Harddrives are significantly less $$$ than directly off the WD website. How "safe" are the OEM drives and do I have anything to worry about as far as performance and reliability?

3. I will be purchasing two raptors. Performance wise for a gamer is raid 0 the most suitable setup? It has been 3+ years since I built a PC and I am a noob when it comes to raid setup. The OS on the first drive and the paging file on the second? Does this hold true for Vista?

4. Are there any harddrive heatsinks/cooling systems that people use with their raptor and would recommend them?

Thanks,
cugine

1. Actually there are a few differences. The non-windowed Raptor has a longer MTBF and different firmware optimizations than the Raptor X

2. You won't get a cable and screws with an OEM drive. With WD, you tend to get a longer warranty with OEM drives actually, but, with the Raptors, it's 5 years all around.

3. I would suggest against RAID-0 for gaming, as the performance gains are dubious at best, and not worth the increased data risk

4. No idea. I just keep good airflow in my case, and have never had a problem

Thanks for the info Vertigo. So should i just have a primary and slave drive then(nothing fancy)? No external raid controller or such thing. The reason I thought about doing it was I saw the alienware machines do raid 0 with two raptors.

Thanks,

Get a raptor for your OS and games, and then a larger secondary drive for media, storage, etc.
If Alienware started putting gold-plated fans in their systems.... :p
I won't deny that there are situations (video editing, for example) where RAID-0 is appropriate, but gaming is not that.

lol... I know I know... :)

Anyway thanks for the info. Appreciate it !
