i currently run a 240gb OCZ SSD with 1x Samsung 1tb and 1x WD green 1tb not in RAID. The two hdd serve as storage drives where really important stuff are copied in both hdd, offline and on an extraordinary 1tb (mainly family photos dating back to 2000). The rest is anime and crap that is mainly on the WD green. However, my WD is starting to fail because it'll stop appearing or some anime files are unreadable. I only access the drives like 5-6 per month.

Now I'm looking to replace the drive with something a little bigger. I saw WD green 3tb for $75 usd vs the red for $88. Is it worth the extra $13 for one year if warranty and special firmware for the red? I'm just weary of the green and its parking and blah blah that I've kind of read about. Like I used, the drive will be accessed infrequently like <30 per month, so what will be more cost effective with less chance of failure if the two?

Tdlr: WD red worth extra $13 over green?

Thanks!

I've used Greens and Blacks for years and recently got a 4TB Red to replace a failing 2TB Green (The Red was an early birthday gift from my dad). I will say that more Greens have failed on me over the years, but I also had more Greens than Blacks.
I would get the Red.

Thanks guys! Red it is. Btw, how about toshiba drives? Ive seen them go on sale for $69.99 for 3tb.

which toshibas? It depends. Never buy OEM toshibas...only retail. They die like flies if not in retard packaging due to shipping damage.

Where did you see 70 bucks? Lowest i have seen is 80-90.

I've had 3 x 6TB WD Red Pros running for like a year with zero problems. I'm really happy I bought them.
