Well I was wondering if anyone has used this software for non WD drives? I am trying to test 2 Hitachi DeskStars and I am using a USB enclosure to do it. Well the Hitachi software I found requires a bootable CD and the Lifeguard tool ran quick test and smart diagnostics said the 1st drive is okay. Should I be able to trust the tool enough to really test the drives?

Also I will be installing Windows 8 on this drive if it checks out. I want to have the WIndows 7 bootloader as the main one though in case this drive fails.

Some USB enclosures won't pass S.M.A.R.T. data, so you might want to double check that and make sure you can see the S.M.A.R.T. data and that it's ok.

Well I am doing a extended test right now. I had it going and accidentally bumped the usb connection and it failed. So I restarted it and 15 mins left and no errors.

Well both drives passed the extended tests I ran. Now the question is will the windows 8 installation use that bootloader or can I force it to use windows 7?

Edit Nevermind I forgot about easyBCD I will use that.
