WD 74GB Raptor question

I just bought a WD 74GB Raptor. I did some researching, but will putting it in something like a Cooldrive 4 help any, as far as cooling goes? I'm sure it will help to reduce the "noise" some, but i don't want to put it in something that is going to turn it into a nuclear reactor :confused: .
 
Well raptor's dont get that hot temp wise, unless your in a mini/tight case with poor circulation. I use one of these things on the bottom just for kicks here
 
Actually, WD740GD runs cooler than many 7200RPM drives. Its cooling needs are generally exaggerated.
 
My raptor barely even gets warm.. I have a temp probe on it right now and its reading 36 degrees celcius.. :cool:
 
COOL!! (phun intended) I kinda wanted the Cooldrive 4 just for looks anyway. Still undecided as to if I'll also let it control the speed of my zalman 7000 Cu, 120mm rear exaust and 80mm intake fans. I got a coolermaster centurion 5 w/ the mesh grill front. I'm not annoyed by moderate noise, but depanding on how "loud" this setup will be, I may even go as far as throwing some sound absorbtion on the inside of the case.
 
With respects to the hard drive dual fan cooler , where do you put it? Does it go directly above or below the hard drive?
 
Something Smart Drive 2002 Silent & Cool should be fine to silence yoor drive and still keep it cool enough: http://www.systemcooling.com/smart_drive-01.html its got fins on the outside, damping material and some copper to transfer the heat away.

When you do get youself a silencer, monitor the temperatures under load to ensure you won't burn out your drive prematurly, especially if you don't have good airflow. It would be nice to have some fan slowly moving air over the unit

That kind mounts under the drive at the 4 bottom mounting holes....
and they are generally loud as hell.

I've got 3 of them I quit using.
I mounted a 120mm fan at the end of my drive cage, it's quiter and works better for the whole system.
