WD 2TB HD $179 AT ZZF (Caveat: O.O.S.) (DEAD)

Noticed a price decrease (an epic one) on the WD 2TB drive, despite being OOS at ZZF.

Price was parked at $279 for a while, then all of a sudden it dropped significantly. Question is will it be this price when it comes back in stock ($179) :eek:
 
eh? With 1tb drives coming in at 80-90 nowdays, 179 should be about the avg.
 
Damn. For $180 I'd jump on one. How many GBs in Windows does a 2TB leave you?

Hard drives have been steadily hovering around the $.09/.10 price point, although it'd be surprising if a new era of hard drives would come down to $.09 so quickly. Goddamn would they sell a ton of 'em though.

UPDATE: It's a little strange that there's no "savings" listed. The regular price is shown as $179.99, so it seems like a mistake or a temporary price drop to gain interest (which worked on me).
 
Isn't ZZF known for putting unbelievably low prices on out of stock items? I seem to remember that happening with some other new items (GTX cards) for example.
 
Well, if a bunch of people sign up to be notified and don't buy it because it jumps back to $300 or so, the joke's on ZZF.
 
It still drives a lot of traffic to their site in the mean time while the price is that low, my guess is that would be the intention.

I dont know, but its been at $279 or so since they came out, until I saw this today. I've checked the page probably 3 times a week or more since the original release, and this is the 1st price change I've noticed.
 
Yeah, all caps with "WD 2TB $179 AT ZZF" on an out of stock item wouldn't have angered anyone....
 
Well tell him then. If he stockpiles these drives, maybe he'll migrate his data and liquidate his current stockpile in FS/FT. ;)

I've said since day one that the first lot was gouged in prices and that the msrp laid in and around 199-249... so this is defintley possible.


*busts out calculator* damn, 3,779.79 for 21 of them... wife is going to kill me :eek: But 42tb's......the terrabyte devil is on my shoulder telling me that I should. lol
 
Wow, would be nice to see these drives sell for a reasonable price like that (sooner rather than later). Here's to hoping!
 
While ultimately I believe it will determined to be an act of futility, but Ockie is attempting to archive all of the porn on the internet...

I think they do these prices on OOS items just to collect email addresses of potential customers.

I just got done buying 4x1TB to hold me over for a few months, ok more like a week, but if this is true...This does mean by summer we may see sub 150 prices, and by the end of the year sub 100 (sale price of course).
 
ZZF had real good deal on Vertex SSD drives too when out of stock... $129 vs $160+ from everyone else... I put in my email and ordered them soon as they came in stock.

Also FRIGGIN A I just ordered 4 1TB drives a week ago because after I did cost calculations I couldn't justify buying 2TB ones at $280. At $180 it would have surely made sense >:|.

I never thought I would need anything bigger than 500gb, now I am filling up my 2TB with tons of
games, movies and "data". "Data" being 800GB's of my "Adult Movie" collection!

The shame!
 
I'm just thinking of replacing the 2x750GB HDs and 500GB HD inside of my HTPC to reduce power draw, heat and space used.

What RAID card would you use for these? I'm thinking about an Areca 1280-ML with 2Gigs of Cache but I don't know if it's compatible with the WD20EADS hard drives.
