WC Idea - Window Reservoir

I was thinking about attaching a reservoir to the side of my case door. I haven't seen anyone do this or heard about it. My alternative solution is placing a bong reservoir on the outside where my radiator is.

I found a window reservoir pre-buit. Anyone use this? Anyone know if this is a good idea and what material to make the reservoir out of?

My currently cramped lian-li case is forcing me to have my radiator outside the case attached to the rear fan grill. My rad collects a lot of dust and is pretty loud so I want to place it inside. Doing so will require me to remove my hard drive cage and place the HDs in the 5.25" bays and move the rad to the HD cage area. Since my reservoir is in a 5.25" drive bay I need a new home for it.

If I had a choice between a window reservoir or not having a reservoir I'd have to choose to not have the reservoir.

Damn thing just looks tacky connected to the side panel like that. Not to mention everytime you want to open your case you have that annoying thing attached to the window.

Not side windows. Reservoirs as / or in a side window are.

My opinion however.

I would never have a huge thing of water that close to my parts..NO WAY! I don't care if its 100% garaunted not to leak or whatever.I'm happy with having my reservoir on the bottom of my case.

yeah, I don't want to open the side and tubes slipped off lol, that would be bad

Actually, if it does leak then it will still fall to the bottom of the case. It doesn't hang over any parts either.

The only downisde will be taking the case off, but using quick connects and leaving extra tubing I should be fine. I'm leaning more towards the prebuilt kit instead of making my own now.

Anyone know where I can find bong res's? I like http://www.pccasegear.com.au/prod904.htm but can't find it in the US.

Just in case you were not aware, you dont NEED a reservior, it does not contribute to cooling.

See the sticky "You've got guestions...."

Yeah, but they sure look nice and make it easier to bleed the air out. :)

Also if you use the Aquatube you can mount it in your 5 1/4" slots with this mount.

Youre not looking for something like:

Innovatek Tank-O-Matic MICRO
Innovatek Tank-O-Matic - External Reservoir
Thermaltake 207 Water Level Indicator
Criticool WaterPlant
AquaComputer Aquatube

Are you? There's lot of companies that sell round, cylindrical reservoirs in the US. You must not be looking very hard. Then again, I've never heard them called "bongs" before so maybe you're looking for something completely different.

I always thought they were called bongs. No wonder I was having a hard time finding them. I do like those Innovatek reservoirs but I'm serious debating getting the side window res. I think it'll save me room and put everything inside the case. We'll see though, I need to map out my plan first. I should see what can fit where and how the flow will go using each reservoir.

How's the noise level on the external reservoirs? My concern would be hearing water coming and going. Do you hear a running water sound coming from external reservoirs or are they pretty much silent.

A reservoir, external or internal, should b pretty damn silent. If it's making a lot of noise, then the reservoir isn't bleeding the loop of air bubbles, and isn't working properly/isn't designed properly. My biggest consern with that window reservoir is that it has 2 90 degree turn with not much room between the walls, so it could be a bog flow reducer. If you like the look/idea, then go for it.

I never thought about the 2 90 degree turns like that. If I go with the external res I'm thinking I would have it so the barbs face towards the computer and cut two holes in the case for them to pass.

Can anyone offer suggestions on how they would run a setup using the lian-li PC-6070 case mentioned in msg #1. I'm aiming for max cooling and silence in either order. Right now I'm thinking (in order of water flow):

-External Res using PCI pass through bracket for the hoses
-Pump
-Rad (attached to lower front of the case where HD cage is)
-CPU
-GPU

Hopefully the radiator will fit where I want it to go.

My sig should provide answers to the hardware I have.

Well the order doesn't matter because once your system settles down after starting up, the water in your loop should be the same temperature all around. So design your loop with a primary concern of minimizing tubing, as that is what will give you the best cooling.

what about adding a small 80mm radiator between the cpu and gpu. would that help cool more? would my swiftech 12v pump be enough to push water through my entire system?

The build I'm working on right now uses four externally mounted res (only one of them is connected to the loop, the other three are cosmetic hooked to a spare pump just to keep water flowing though it).

You can hear it if you're on top of it. Although that's because I'm using three res only partially filled to get the action of water jetting around inside of it. The one that's pretty well full doesn't make much noise at all. If I turn off the pump for the spare res it's quieter than the fans in the case.

That too.

However, I have room to put something internally where the rear case fan goes. I'm thinking a Black Ice Micro 80mm rad would fit nicely there. Then I could still use the res or use a T line and fill port. So many possibilities. I'm thinking about ordering all the parts and just playing around with what fits best.

The trickiest part will be removing my hard drive cage and half of the 3.5" drive bays to fit my 120mm rad in the lower front. Then I'll need to hack the front of my case because I have two case fans (60mm I think) mounted there which are much smaller than my 120mm fan for the rad. Unfortunately I think there are holes already cut in the case for the fans. I'll need to somehow fill in the gaps.
