Suggestion for a simple method of controlling all these fans? (7 rad +

I want to use compression fittings but these damn Bitspowers run freakin $10/piece = $240 just for fittings!! Anyone else here use Tygon 3603 1/2" and suggest another compression fitting? I contacted Koolance but their 1/2" ID fittings fit 5/8" OD and all they could suggest was using barbs lol.
 
7/16" ID over 1/2" barbs, no clamps.

Why the QX? That thing is stupid, stupid expensive.. but I guess if you have the cash and must have a 45nm quad.

Zalman and Sunbeam make nice fan controllers. You don't really need individual control -- just get a high amperage rated unit and put all the fans on a rad on the same knob. Simplifies things a lot. That, or pick up a couple of controllers, but that's serious overkill.
 
Well I guess I am screwed anyway with compression fittings. Thankfully by accident I came across a thread about how the Fuzion block can barely fit 3/8" compression fittings let alone 1/2". If I go the route of putting 7/16" ID tubing on the 1/2" OD barbs without clamps, what would the safety % be?
 
Hard to say -- I have a number of different barbs in my system (Swiftech, DangerDen, EK, D-Tek, so all the big ones really) and no leaks with about 3 weeks of usage.

I heated the 7/16" with a bowl of hot water, then jammed it over the barbs. With some it was really hard (Swiftech delrin barbs, Liang D5 Vario barbs) and on others (EK, DangerDen) it was fairly easy. I've been running the D5 at highest setting, and I got no leaks overnight, then no leaks for the 3+ weeks I had the system together (mid-rebuild right now). Even moved it in the car twice. So... probably pretty low chance of leaks so long as you're careful up front and don't yank on your tubing. So long as it's all internal it should be a non-issue.
 
Good deal and ya just saved me $240 in compression fittings and another $24 in tubing since the 7/16" is $1 cheaper.... woohoo
 
Any chance I can convince you to drop the QX chip in favor of a Q6600 or X3220? I hate to see people pay out for the QXs -- what Intel asks is pure madness. Also, the southbridge on most chipsets runs so cool that waterblocks are pretty much pointless. You should be able to run passive with a moderately sized heatsink.
 
i agree with silent circuit, a Q6600 will do you more than good enough, look on the for sale / trade forum theres quite a few people selling them to downgrade. i would too lol.

i do like compression fittings but they are a pain because you have to use the thinner walled tubing its best to use the thicker stuff if you're gonna be running a top dollar rig. id hate to see a kink somehow happen then fuck up the whole loop.
 
You've got way too much money and not enough research...

My comments:

1. The selection of a chip is fine if you have the money. However your choice leaves you bottlenecked... 4GB of Corsair 1066 means that you're getting 4x1gb of their pc8500 ram... IMO either get DDR3 since you obviously have the cash or don't bother with trying to OC 4 sticks of 8500s unless you want instabilities. Go for 2x2GB if you're going for DDR2.

2. D-Tek is a great brand for blocks but you are pairing it with a Koolance kit /rad? Look up Thermochill then cross Koolance off your list.

3. You do not need 24' of tubing... I have a medium size Lian-Li and I havent used more than 7' feet of tubing at one time.. unless you're planning to put your cooling system on the OTHER side of your desk from your computer.. this is not necessary and a waste of cash.

4. Fittings that cost $10 bucks a piece... Go to Petra and look up your sizing for the radiator and your blocks and a set that ranges 5-6 bucks..

5. Throw away the southbridge cooler idea and invest in a gpu block like the MCW30s it will help your temps for your GPU in the long run.

6. Remove "Anti-Static Wrist Wrap" - put more money in "Keyboard" Suggestion: Logitech G15 v2

7. Logitech MX518 > G5 .. yes i have both and yes I gave my G5 to my little bro.


You didn't specify a pump but I would suggest a D5 Laing or the Swiftech version (the same exact thing) just rebranded..

More research will give you better stuff or will save you money.. either way you need tweaks.

How exactly am I being bottlenecked with 4x1GB of PC8500? Frankly out of mulitple forums I post on your actually the first one to to say to get DDR3 where as everyone else (Including on here) said to drop the DDR3 since it was useless. (Anyone else want to chime in here?)

No Koolance parts are being used, rads consist of... a Black Ice GTS360 and dual Black Ice GTS240's coupled with Swiftech MCP355 pumps.

Im only getting 24' because 1: Figured this is my first build, so in the event of a screw up I still have plenty left and 2: I would probably be doing a flush and change of tubing every 6 months compared to once a yr, so I figured it best to just order now rather then having to reorder just tubing later on.

I have actually descided on going with 7/16" tubing over 1/2" barbs with no clamps
 
I also am not seeing a pump or radiator. Like Wshmaster0 said, the D5 is a good choice. Now, a really high end pump would be something like an Iwaki or similar.
Any idea what rad you will be using? And fans?

If you can't put together a simple water loop, you're not ready for anything with an unlocked multi.

I suggest the MCP320/240-QP for a rad.
 
As with MANY many discussions already here on [H], oc'ing 4x1GB of ram runs into many problems because, 1, memory controller is being stressed.. two its hard to balance 4 sticks of ram without relaxing the timings or worst killing off one of your sticks cos you over-volted to meet a hungry chip's needs.

The only reason I said go DDR3 is because you seem to have a high end budget and wanting the best stuff. At this point I wouldn't recommend DDR3 for anyone but enthusiasts with cash to burn. The main point is not to bottleneck yourself and I can almost guarantee you that 4x1GB will do that.

I have used mutiple sets of ram in my system and as I said if you are thinking of a long term plan to OC, I would suggest getting 2x2GB of PC8500 (which Corsair does NOT yet carry).. or go with another brand.


The only reason I assumed you were going Koolance is because you were in contact with them.. since you didn't state the choice of radiator you were going for, I had to assume that you were in contact with them for more than just fittings.


Clamps are your friends lol.. especially with non-plastic fittings.

Well not going the wasteful route of DDR3 what do you suggest for memory? Of course I want the best but then again I dont want to throw away money if its not going to benefit me. As for OC'ing... I was hoping to see a modest 4.3Ghz or there abouts.

24' of tubing??? I fuck up at least once every time I look at my WC set-up and I think I've used a max of 12 feet, and thats completely changing the Loop once.
I use cheeeeep clear tubing from FrozenCpu. Hasnt failed me yet.:eek:

Ya know I just looked at memory and going the route of 2x2GB will put me back to DDR2 800Mhz... wouldnt that be worse then goign with the 4x1GB 1066Mhz?

contact them via email to see if they have any they can send you or have vendors that will sell it.

Am I just nutz with my always assuming that more money equals better product? I look at these 2 sets of 4GB and the first thing I assume is that the OCZ is inferior to the Corsair because the Corsair costs $418 versus OCZ for $180... maybe I wouldnt be so sceptical if the price differance was $50 - $100 but were talking about 1/4 of the price.
 
If it says it's rated for X, it's rated for X, and RAM for the most part is RAM. Brand matters very little anymore unless you're looking for sticks that'll OC well. Everything is going to run at rated speed and timings or better. Go with the cheaper kit.

Now back to WC'ing....

Im going to do my CPU, NB, SB and Mosfets all on a 360 radiator and both GPU's on dual 240 rads.... what kind of temps in regards to the CPU loop should I be seeing and what numbers should I start worrying about? I want to get to about 4.3Ghz OC....
 
I just figured the heat from Mosfets aint all that much so why not toss them into it as well. Of course once I start putting the loops together this may be another story but... have to wait and see.

It's at least necessary to have some kind of active cooler on the mosfet if you want a serious overclock

Yea thats what I am going to do and get the OCZ, but I swear if Corsair puts out a freakin 2x2GB kit of PC2-8500 after buying these I am gonna throw a hugh ass tandrum lol.

Dude that is really fooked up... did you like know someone at Corsair and pay them just to post that for a couple hours or something LMFAO.... I sent them an email to see if they might shed some light on when exactly they will be available via resellers. I would much prefer to hold off on the OCZ. It says end of month but wtf... next Friday is the end of the month!!
