Hey,

Im going to be making a new system, A64, etc etc... and I was wondering should I also cool the chipset on the motherboard?? I want to OC, so will it help in performace. Ive heared mixed things, so I decided to ask here.

Thanks!

i've got a maze1 slapped onto the nb on my nf7-s and it keep temps at bay. it's not necesary to wc your chipset cause a nice hs will do an equally good job. i suggest saving yourself some money and just cut up your stock cpu hs, drilling some holes in it, and using that to cool the chipset. wc on the nb is overkill unless you want to get every last mhz from your system

IMO, watercooling the NB is adding an unnecessary restriction to your loop. Unless your going for absolute silence, I think a better alternative would be a Thermalright NB-1C. Works great and is a much cheaper alternative.

sounds right. a nb block is overkill, a good aftermarket (or sometimes stock) heatsink/hsf should be fine on it.

agreed, cooling your chipset looks slick but it adds heat and restricts the loop. if you are going to have one of the large 6800 sized GPU blocks and you want to do some good OCing, you might want to run a 2nd loop. then you could put your chipset on the loop with the CPU block. that's what i would do.

Thanks PPL.

I want a quiet system, so im going to look at the two lines (one going to CPU -> chipset and other to GFX). Should I use a Y Splitter????

He's talking about a second pump, for 2 totally seperate loops. It's very hard to balance the flow between lines like you're talking about, and then you won't get to enjoy higher flow.

I'm using the Swiftech MCX159 on my NB. At 18-19dB (can't recall exactly), it's quieter than your rad fans will be (and the NB-1C). I lapped my northbridge (nForce2 northbridge chips are concave) and my temps are the same as my cpu.

My computer is warmed up right now, and here's the temps (according to my AG2):
cpu: 34.5C
gpu: 35C
nb: 34C
H2O: 30C

Ohhhh. Ok then screw it. If I used a koolance system, would i be able to cool the mobo chipset. Or there is still no freaking point.
