I am trying to build a near silent file server, I have the drive noise under control, but the two raid cards I am using are getting extremely hot. I was wondering if anyone had a clever way in mind to water cool both of these cards.
You could use an MCW60 or something if you need to keep the large diameter tubing though. But if you have a chipset loop, the smaller diameter doesn't make much of a difference and keeps tubing clutter to a minimum.
I am thinking I might want to watercool the processor / board. leaving air for the 20 hard drives. I am running S-Flex fans. I might just try to aim one right at these bastards. Do you all think this solution would keep them cool? Also how often would I need to clean the circuit?
The perc 5 runs in many servers with no heatsink or passive cooling so you should be able to just put a heatsink on them and have a 120mm quite fan going over them. Right now my perc 5's have pretty much no cooling and no heatsink...I need to fix that though.
In 15 minutes (no active cooling) they caused my 7900GS (with a zalman on it) to overheat. So I was going with the not taking any chances approach. It would also look pretty cool.
Yeah I actually have pretty much the same problem, one of my perc 5's is right up next to my 4870 x2 and makes it hard for one of the fans to work well. When I get that to water it will be fine though. Hope to see your results, I have an extra perc 5 and a maze 4 that I'll try to take a look at if it would mount since that uses pretty standard pins that I think the mcw 60 and others use also.
