My waveOut keeps dying and seemingly more often. I don't know if it is a driver thing, hardware thing or what.

Here's the symptoms: Playing an AVI, MPEG or something in Media Player (it might happen in others but that is where it has happened so far). Suddenly the sound stops and won't comeback until I've rebooted. I know that it waveOut because if I go into WinAmp and play the music is fine. Now set the preferred output device to waveOut the track decreases by 1 seconds and then stops. No sound. Set it back to DirectSound and it works. I've had a look in MediaPlayer 9 for a DirectSound option but I can't find it.

Any ideas?

My system specs:
GATEWAY
- GlobalWin 802 Case
- AMD Athlon 1600+ @ 1407MHz w/ CoolerMaster Aero Lite
- ABit KX7-333
- Samsung 256MB PC2700 CL2.5
- Corsair 256MB PC2700 CL2.5
- Unbranded Radeon VE 64mb (Powered by ATi)
- Creative Soundblaster Audigy Platinum
- 1 x Q-Tec 400Watt Dual Fan PSU
- 1 x 6.5GB Maxtor 5400 RPM IDE HDD
- 1 x 40GB Maxtor 5400 RPM IDE HDD
- 1 x 120GB Maxtor 7200 RPM IDE HDD
- 1 x Pioneer 106S DVD Drive (Region Free)
- 1 x 1.44MB Sony FDD
- 1 x 32PW9308 Philips Widescreen TV
- 1 x Teryon Terajet Cable Modem Modem
- 1 x Packard Bell 5.1 DTS8500 Speaker System

I dislike rebooting it since it also acts as the router for my home network which is in constant use by my flatmates (to access the Net).

Any ideas/solutions?
