hey, i've never attempted watercooling before, as I just started getting into the whole overclocking and modding thing recently.. but now i'm ready for a new challenge, and lower comp. temps! so as i was browsing the [H]ardForums, i noticed a Koolance Expos Black unit for sale... here is a direct copy from his post

"Koolance Exos Black unit. This is newer version with fill cap at top of unit. Blocks that comes with it are CPU-300G and GPU 180. Mounting kits for all processor (except xeon) and all chipsets are included. There also is Almost new fluid that can fill up system +. Tubing is not cut much so you should be able to reuse it right away and can get tubing easily at most hardware store. (1/4” ID 3/8” OD) This usually will sell close to $300 shipped in most cases. It is about 2 months old unit. I have all orginal box on this. I can not think of better way for brand new H2O’ers or seasoned warriors who changes components frequently, or have small cases to do custom jobs. My price is $230 shipped."

i was hoping that someone would tell me if this is a good deal or even a good idea for a first-timer with watercooling... and would the blocks fit onto my rig? i believe that the CPU block would need an adapter, from what i've read, but the GPU unit should fit since it is compatible with a 9800.

My system specs are :

AMD 64 3500+ (socket 939)
x800xt p.e. (softmodded pro)
asus kt800 board (newest model)

Thanks for your time!!

yes the koolance is a good intro into the world of water cooling. as long as the seller has included the bracket for a64 mounting you should not have any problems that way. as far as the graphics block I am not sure if it will fit your vid card. check here http://www.koolance.com :D

I think it's a good overall system. The GPU block is no problem for your card, I'm using one on my second system with a Hydrocool. I do think the price is a bit high though. You should check around some of the other retail sites t see what it's going for these days.......... ;)

well, from what i understand, the cooling blocks for the a64 and the GPU block cost an extra $60 each?? right? they dont come stock with the system, do they??

if anyone can help me out, i'd appreciate it!

thanks!

**meaning that the system ($190) + the 2 cooling blocks ($120) should be around $310?.. but i'm probably mistaken, otherwise he wouldn't sell it for so cheap**

Just checked koolances sight and you are correct. The waterbocks do not come with the exos and must be purchased seperately. At about $59 CPU waterblock and 40.00 GPU waterblock thats aprox $100 to add onto the $190 for the exos so $290 for the whole shooting match not including freight (figure 15-20 for shipping) so his price of $230 shipped looks pretty good now.

Complete shipped price from Newegg for what he has listed is $282 shipped. I still think the asking price is a little high. You can get the Corsair Hydrocool for 180 at Frys I think, and it cool better.

there is not a Fry's computer store anywhere near where I live...

i'm wondering how much benefit this Koolance system will give to my CPU speed..

i'm pretty new to overclocking, but if i installed this watercooling system, do you think its reasonable to expect to hit 2.7ghz off my AMD 64 3500+??

my system should be in my sig
