I'm looking to watercool my cards, but the current water cooling system that I have is a low flow system...so I'm think it's not a good idea to add two more GPU heatsinks to my loop. So instead, and since my radiator and fans, and resevior are external, I was was thinking of kind of adding a new loop...maybe buy the Thermaltake Big-water SE and setting that up just for my GPUs alone...that is after I buy DangerDen 7800 SLI blocks. Is this a good idea? Any suggestions or other products I should use instead?
 
I wouldn't use the bigwater kit for your vid cards. It has a hard enough time keeping decent temps on a cool running A64, let alone 2 x 7800gtx oc'd. You may not like my suggestion, as it involves a 2x120 rad and a mcp-655 pump......but it'll keep those sli beasts cool.
 
Nah, that's good for me to know...I don't mind putting another radiator on the back of my pc, as long as I get the perfomance I want out of it.
 
I think that the 655 is overkill for simply cooling a pair of vid cards as is the dual 120 rad, personally I'd suggest something more along the lines of a Black Ice Pro single 120mm rad and either the CSP-Mag or DDC for the pump.

That should be more than enough to keep your cards cooler than stock air cooling even with a good OC going on.

that is a really good, though expensive, suggestion for cooling those VGA cards effectively.

i rather hope that spoogemonkey had something to replace the currnet koolance unit in mind as well as cooling the VGA cards, when he suggested the MCP655 and 120.2 rad.......or maybe he's just into the super-extreme overkill...... :D

Since the OP already has a storm block, and is buying the 7800 sli blocks, adding the mcp655 (or d5) and a bip2 would effectively replace the exos2.......and give good performance throughout the whole system. And actually, the price would be a few bucks cheaper than the bigwater (~$120)....since DD has the d5 for $75 and the bip2 for $36.

dude what did i say about your suggested parts replacing the current exos2?

i know that i'm hammered at this point, but i'm pretty sure that you just confirmed what i said, rather than contradicting it. :)

Well, I just got the Koolance and I'm kind of kicking myself about it...I really don't want to get rid of it...could you suggest something that's smaller and would be enough to take care of my vid cards? Some that gets good OC performace?
 
I was indeed confirming what you said. Just wanted to clarify. :D And since he doesn't mind hanging a 120.2 rad off the back of his box, this can either replace the exos or supplement it as a seperate loop.

For just the vid cards, you could probably get by with a single bip ($29) and a mag-12 pump ($50), through in a t-line and you're g2g.

But with the previously suggested parts you're free to eliminate the exos2 and sell it in fs/ft....which will more than recoup your expenses on these new items.

well....i'm pretty sure that you could add a low-powered DC pump like the DD CSP mag to the loop, a single 120mm rad and low CFM fan with a swiftech rad-box between the CPU and GPU, and a pair of swiftech MCW55 GPU waterblocks, along with BGA ramsinks from watever vendor tickles your fancy to get some pretty sweet computer cooling.....

then again, my friend and i are gertting mighty close to finishiing the 1.14 L bottle of vodka that we started the night with. so......take anything that i say at this point with a grain of salt........followed by another shot of tequila :D

all, in all, the tiney little pump that the exos 2 uses kind of limits your options, if you want to keep a single loop. i wasn't joking when i said that madmat's proposed GPU-only loop was a good idea, that would allow you to leave your CPU loop unchanged. spoongemonkey's suggestonis regarding parts that would allow you to eliminate the exos2 are also totally viable.

Wow...I totally missed this earlier when I suggested this as an alternative to my previous post!! Friday nights on the forums are getting scary.....I'll just stick to my beer now :cool:
