Trying to figure this out and/or if this is just normal.

My W/C system seems to loose water over time. No idea where it goes. Every few months I can start to hear a trickle of water from the res because the water level has gotten below the inlet opening.

it isn't a huge deal as I just put more water in, but still would like to know if this is normal.

could be evaporation, the water can soak into the tubing and evaporate. I would however check all your connections again and check for leaks

To check for slow leaks, put dye into your loop and wrap all your connections tightly with tissue paper. If any of the paper is stained after a week or so you've found your leak; if not it's just evaporation.

If the loss is over a couple of months, it most likely is just evaporation. Tubing is not completely non-porous, and when you heat things up, water is more likely to evaporate through.
