Watercooling, is it worth it?

From what I've read, it's not really much, if at all, better than a decent air cooler. The stock P4 cooler is actually quite good, btw. The only advantage might be less noise, but then the stock P4 coolers aren't exactly what I'd call loud. If you want to go H2O, either piece a system together yourself, or buy a kit like the Koolance Exos.

If you're not into extreme overclocking or not intrested in having a super quiet system, then watercooling probably isn't for you.

ding ding ding, we have a winner!!!

I imagine myself with a water-cooled system and it just seems weird. I'm so used to hearing fan noise when my computer's on. I'd prolly keep checkin' the LEDs to make sure my computer is actually running.

But last year when my heatsink fan died, I had my case cover off and my boxfan right up against my computer. That was...fun.

hahah that's great...I've thought about doing that myself for no reason. I've also thought about ducting cold air from my window into my case in the winter (which in Cleveland lasts like 7 months)

yeh, watercooling is definitly a lot cooler (in every sense of the word) than air cooling.

one of the best purchases ive ever made. that and my new monitor. damn i'm rackin em up ;)

yo man, i would love it if i can get a watercooling system. crank up the FBS and let ur cpu fly...lol

watercooling systems still need fans mate :) The main thing to note is that generally you can use bigger, slower fans which make a much less whiney noise. Still make noise, nonetheless.

As for "is it worth it"? well thats totally up to what you want to get out of it. It can be expensive and it can be time consuming, but the benefits are obvious. You have to decide for yourself. Generally speaking, watercooling is not a set up + leave kind of system. It will need maintainance.

Don't worry, you can still make a loud water cooling system. Just stick one of those 190 CFM Deltas on your radiator...

And don't let your dog/cat near it, unless you want a noseless pet :)

I think you mean sniffing.

Smelling is a whole nother story.

In terms of watercooling, when you say maintenance, how much are we talking about? Would you feel safe leaving your computer on for a few days while you'e gone? This would be a deciding factor.

I leave mine running 24/7.
I would advise against that particular kit though. I'm not a fan of kits myself for the most part. H20 will give you great temps and lower noise for the most part.

Like someone said before.. you probably shouldn't get it.. if you're not into extreme overclocking and if you don't care about a noisy computer..

As for leaving the system on. If nothing is messing with the system should be fine. But the genaral rule of thumb when it comes to using water cooling. If you're unsure. DON"T. If you don't think you know everything it takes DON"T. A good delta fan on a SK-947 will work mericals.

The Good:
CAN BE very quiet.
When done right a very constant temp.

The Bad
Can get expensive.
Not the easiest to set up and configure the first time.

The Ugly:
If it leaks....YOU'RE SCREWED
