I have been having trouble keeping the Q6600 cool in my Antec Fusion @ 3ghz. Its ok in the winter but when its warm it can reach 80C-90C in Prime95, although its completely stable. I was thinking of watercooling it but thought the Antec Fusion wasn't suitable but I've had an idea!

Would it be possible to mount a radiator above the PSU in this case? I know mixing water and power probably isnt a good idea but then again water and CPU's in general doesnt seem that sensible so why not?

Any thoughts?

I was thinking of these parts...

Swiftech MCR120-QP-B 120mm Radiator http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=WC-006-SW

This could be mounted above the PSU with maybe another fan above it...

The reservoir could be mounted in the drive bay behind the VFD.

Heres a pic of the fusion to give you an idea...

My PSU (which is mounted in the top left) has a 120mm fan on top which is open and could pull air through the rad.

I'm new to water cooling so any help is appreciated.

Thanks!

The only problem I can for see with mounting the radiator above the PSU is that the rad won't be able to get enough "fresh" air. Instead its going to pick up the heated air from the PSU. Plus, a 120x1 rad isn't going to be enough room for an overclocked Q6600. At the least you will need a 120x2 for OK temps.

I thought that might be the case. I don't want a bloody great rad on the outside of the machine though... I know a lot of you do it but it seems completely impractical to me. I'll stick with the Scythe Mini and might have a go at lapping the chip and heatsink.

You may be able to fit a radiator in there and on the inside. I am not sure how well it cools but it will fit I think.

Looking at that picture I thought this would fit.

It would be very tight but it might work.

i had thought of that but the mobo is very tight to those fans so doubt it would fit unless there are very slim ones out there... also the tubing would be a prob on either side
