Right now I have my entire PC watercooled for the most part, and I'd like to keep it that way.

CPU, NB, and video card 8800GTS 512 with DD water block and IandH heatsinks.

My friend gave me a VISIONTEK 5770, so I'm considering water cooling it, or just using it for the HTPC. I realize it is a faster card, but taking my 8800GTS out of the loop is kind of a pain too. Will the EK block even fit on the visiontek version?

How much of an upgrade is the 5770 from the 8800GTS and would it be worth it to continue water cooling? I love to do it but budget is tight right now. What does the [H] suggest?

I just read that I can re-use my maze 5 for this card, but what else on the card will need to be cooled?

As long as there is good airflow in your case and/or some type of fan blowing directly onto your card you should be fine. Many 5770s don't even have passive cooling on the RAM or VRMs. If you want to OC, though, some heatsinks + direct airflow on the RAM and VRMs would likely help a lot.

I don't see how anyone ever has direct airflow over their video cards, I mean I have a fan above it and a thermochill 120.3 PA below it (but it blows dust down and out of the case). I have intake fans but they are mostly blocked be the hard drives. Its a well ventilated case in general. I think the stock HS is tall enough that I could epoxy on ram sinks and still put the stock cooler back on later, course I would likely not be able to warranty the card then if something should happen. Not that its a $400 video card or anything.

When you say that they do not even have passive cooling, are you taking into account the stock fan blowing over them, or are you talking about other Passive versions of the cards?

I might clock it a little, but I tend to leave video cards alone. I mostly like a quiet PC with better than stock cooling.

I just meant direct airflow as in a side intake or PCI-slot-fan-thing. And by passive cooling I just meant heatsinks/-pipes, basically. I honestly think you'll be fine without RAMsinks or anything special like that, especially at stock clocks.

Looks like I need to pikup some differen't all threads, maybe DD stocks them. Otherwise I will have to take my spare maze4 down to the hardware store.

DD is lagging on responding to my inquery. I know what I need to get it working, but I am not sure where to get such small diameter allthread.

I also want to get an extra cushion so that I do not crush the caps on the backside of the card. Of course there is a chance the stock backplate will have large enough holes, can anyone confirm this? There also might be some way to use plastic washers to elevate the backplate over the card. I guess I will be neededing to drill my own holes in the backplate. I wish I had a workbench and a vice....
