Well I removed my Swiftech Apogee GTZ today to take a look at how much contact was being made. To my dismay I seen that I was only making 70% contact tops. I have my block tightened as far as it will go. So my question is, what can I do to get better contact? I know I could lap my block and cpu, but I really don't want to lap my cpu.

Is there any point to lap the block alone? If so, what grit sand paper will I need? Also, is it better to lap free hand or use a flat surface like a mirror? Thanks

If it is a GTZ second edition, then it was designed right from the factory with a bow in it. They made a bowing kit for the first edition GTZ. Anyway, the bow is there to help improve cooling on intel processors.

I'm pretty sure I got the first edition. How would a bow help cooling if the block is not making 100% contact??

it puts more pressure at the center of the chip. The actual cpu chip only takes about 1/3 of the space under the metal lid. Atleast the last one I tore apart which was a pentium 4. But I am going to assume it is still the same even with the new processors. Here is a link about the bow in the GTZ SE vs the GTZ.
