Water level drops/rises when pump on/off?

Is it normal for the water level to drop when my pump kicks in, and rise when it shuts off?

Makes me think there's a bit of air in the system. If the level is dropping, the pump must be compressing air somewhere in the system.

It's been running (leak test) for about 24 hrs, there are really no bubbles left in the system.

(FWIW, micro-res level moves about a half-inch.)
 
Yeah, sounds like you probably have some air trapped somewhere. Had the same thing happen to me on my first WC system. Likely candidate would be the radiator or pump if it's a fairly drastic drop in level. You might want to rotate and shake the components a bit to see if you might be able to loosen up a pocket of air.
 
I dunno mine always does this too for years now and there isnt any air in my system. Might not be noticable if you have a resevior but I see it with my T-line. I think its cause from the pressure in the system.
 
T-Lines work a little different than a res for sure. Having used both, it was normal for the level to drop in the T. But I also use the Swifty Micro-res in one system and after being properly bled mine actually doesn't drop in water level at all. This might seem kind of fundamental, but one other suggestion to the OP is that you ensure your res has water a good bit above the baffle. If it's too low any air bubbles might just be getting sucked right back into the loop.
 
If I leave it off for a little and turn it back on, I get some more bubbles, some of which you can see going right back into the pump. On the Micro-res the bottom fitting goes to the pump and the top is teh return from the loop, correct?

I think it's coming from the rad. I'll try tilting it around and such later.

It's called variation in water pressure. ;)
 
Well I think the rad was the culprit, I tilted it around and got a crapload of air out of it. Need to let it run for awhile to settle down again.

FWIW, the pump is a DDC with Petra's top.
