Oh I heard that there can be problems from using distilled water with different types of metal in the same loop. Is that incorrect?

Yea, no aluminum and copper in the same loop, due to galvanic corrosion. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Galvanic_corrosion
The nickel is probably electroplated onto a copper interior. Many companies nickel-plate their copper to protect the copper from oxidizing.

Ok. thanks I decided to just go with an aquagrafx copper block.
