Water cooling question

I'm thinking about water cooling my new system and I'm wondering if I should go with a packaged kit, like the Swiftech H20-220, or build my own. How well does the H20-220 perform? Would I be better off with a separate water block and pump?

Thanks in advance!

Well, what are you cooling? We need system specs.

The H20-220 is a wicked kit for the price though, can't go wrong if you're only doing CPU, and never want to add a high end video card.

What are you cooling? Just CPU or CPU + (chipset/vga/ram)? I used to run that kit in my system and it performed pretty well. As as stated earlier, very good bang for the buck considering the components included.

I would like to cool everything but I might just start with the CPU and grow from there

Well, if you want to cool your E8400, your NB, and your GPU, you'll need at least a triple radiator... So, no, the H20-220 kit isn't exactly what you need.

I'd get a Dtek Fuzion, an MCP655 and an MCR320, masterkleer tubing and yate loon fans.

Could one get away with a Q9450 and X38 chipset under the H220 kit?

I like the VGA cards exhausting straight out the back of the case, and don't plan to H2O cool them.</threadjack>:)

Yes, I had a similar setup with a Q6600 (o.c. on 1.4Vcore) and a Maximus Formula northbridge block, and temps were better than air (Noctua NH-U12P) by a good 3-4 degrees on idle and 5-6 on load for the cpu, with northbridge never going over 37. I also had 7 case fans going though, but all at fairly low speed. YMMV of course.
