Am I crazy to think I have to buy a $200.00 kit for watercooling, or is there a mod guide out there for cheaper *effective do it yourself kits?

kits arent that graet for 200$ especially when you could get a kickass setup that outperforms the kit greatly for about the same price. Im about to buy a WC setup and its costing me about 182$

Kits arent great for $200.00 but your getting a good one for less? Im not sure that made any sense to me...

check out my thread

I meant like Im spending 182$ on various components to form my own watercooling system, which will outperform the Kits you can buy. Kind of like buying a prebought computer, whereas I build my own, Im building my own setup.

depends on how much of a diy'er you are.

you can get a good car heater core for ~ $20
An el cheapo cpu block for $25 (TC-4 rev. 2) or a good one for $40 (MCW 6000/6002 I consider it best price/preformance).
I would get the CSP-750 Mark II when it comes out for $37
Tubing, fittings, distilled water and additives - ~$20

You'll also need a shroud for teh rad which you can make out of tupperware and fans for it (which you may or may not have. (this could add some cost depending on what you have i doubt more then $50)

I'd make a T-line or do a closed loop system, don't buy a res.

So that's about $120 plus shipping, not counting any fans or shrouds you'll need. I bet it will preform better then the $200 kits.

I plan to build a very similar system when i buy a new gfx card.

My price tag is gonna come in at about 160 when all the dust sttles including the materials to build a custom rad enclosure outside of the comp. Should handily outperform every prebuilt systems Ive seen. Ive built everything just waiting on the waterblock and pump to arrive ( swiftech 6002A block as mentioned above-great price to performance ratio)

There is nothing wrong with buying a kit. Swiftechs kits will work very well and take the guesswork outta the equation..but they do cost a bit more than shopping around for the best parts for what you are looking to accomplish. Plus its always cool to have a bit of a customization in ur setup.
