water cooling problem

I have the new Tt bigwater system. but my temps run from ~32-50 (depending on if I use the quiet cooling or overclock).

currently i'm oc'd w/ the fx-60 @ 2.8 @ idle temps sit at 47c.

any tips or things to check to help drop this down.

Make sure that you have good contact between the CPU and the block.

Also make sure that there are no kinks in your tubing anywhere.

Beyond that....get a "real" watercooling solution? ;)
 
the system came w/ the case I bought. I've tried to seat it as best I can.

Well, with a processor like that you don't want to waste potential, and that's what you'd be doing with the Bigwater.

As for "real" watercooling, it depends on a lot of things. How much are you willing to spend? Do you want performance, good looks, or a combination of both? Are you okay with the inherent difficulties that come with selecting parts and constructing your own DIY watercooling loop?

I personally got most of my watercooling advice on the xtremesytems forums, there are plenty of stickies there to get you started. Also, read the sticky at the top of this forum for some guidance.
 
well, I just dropped 4.5k on this system, and I'm sure I'd have trouble getting a kitchen pass for another grand at the moment. reviews I read showed that this system can cool things much more than what's happening at the moment, so I'm at an impasse. I'm not opposed to the diy system (although my wife might be ;)) so that might be an option.

I wouldn't say that 50' sounds overly hot for an FX-60 at 2.8ghz. What are your ambient temps like? What temps did you get on the stock cooler, if you tried it?

The FX-60 puts out a huge amount of heat, so they're not necessarily that bad temps. Especially if your PC is in a hot room, that could account for a lot of it. It's hard to compare temperatures if people have their PCs in different temperature rooms.

A good DIY setup definitely won't cost $1000.

Depending on what you want to cool, you need

- cpu waterblock ($30-$70)
- radiator and fan(s) (variable, my heatercore only cost $20, but you can spend way more)
- a good pump ($40-$100)
- tubing ($7 and up)
- coolant ($1 for 1 gal. distilled water, $8 for antifreeze)
- clamps and misc. fittings (~$10-20)

Now, if you want to cool your video card, that'll be another $30-$60, plus the extra tubing. EDIT: you have two, so double that.

If, for some reason, you want to cool your chipset, that's another... $20? I don't know, I personally wouldn't bother.

And of course you could get very exotic and pay a bunch more for hard drive blocks, flow indicators, etc. But depending on your needs, a decent setup can cost below $200 easily.

Plus, it's FUN!

well, when I use the cool n quiet functionality (it drops my clock down to like 1.5 when idle) the cpu stays around average of 37° (same as system temps. which is where i'd like for its upper bounds to be), but when it jumps up to 2.6 it causes a laggy feel in games.

when I set it on stock 2.6 speeds it stays around 47° (same as 2.8 & I could probably push it higher w/out much difference, but thats idle temps). when the room heats up (I do live in texas after all, so its always hot) its around 52°c.

I know its max temp is 63°, and 50's is just way too close to that for my comfort. the stock fan kept is (at stock speeds) at around 50-55° so i guess thats not too bad, but I dont want this thing to get aged before its time due to high temps.

the video cards I'm not too worried about since they stay pretty cool (around 40° @ 510MHz / 1.44GHz).

I wouldn't imagine that your temps would be all that huge of a difference...I mean 47C at idle is pretty damn hot...mine is 32C at idle and I've been Prime95ing two instances and OCCT in the background for an hour and my temp is will not break 39C AND I have 1 Video card on the same loop..AND I'm OCd at 3ghz - 1.4v....I think you might want to check how well you block is touching your CPU...maybe they are not making good contact...also you might want to check your flow...those zalman flowrate gauges are ok to use with your OD tubing
 
how much was your swiftech setup (and what parts are you using)?

my radiator is inside the case, I wonder if it would be better to move that ouside.

My setup? hmmm..well it was 70 for the RAD+fan combo...70 for the pump...50-60 for the CPU waterblock..20 for the rad mounting kit...20 for the res..10 or so for the tubing...hmm I guess it wasn't cheap close to 250 I guess...It works well for me though...wish I had smaller tubing though...I won't go into that.

Alos, I doubt you'll notice that much of a difference from putting the rad outside...you might notice something from a new CPU block though...thought I don't know how great youre pump is either
