Water cooling performance differences

Alright, i know that 1/2in tubes cools better than 3/8, and 3/8 cools better than 1/4, but how much are the temperatures actually affected? Theres gotta be someplace that has done performance tests, since they do them all the time with heatsinks. Does anyone have any links to real, professionally done perormance benchmarks? Also, how much does the flow rate with the pump affect the temperatures?

wouldn't you also have to factor in how efficient the setup is?

I've seen people's setups with different size tubing, but similar temps. So I don't think there is a set difference in temps with tubing.
