Hello All. I am looking into making my PC Liquid Cooled.. I have a EPoX 8RDA3+ Mobo, a AMD 1800+ (Soon a 2800+ or better), and a PNY GeForce FX 5200 Ultra. I just want to see if anyone can give me a list of everything that i need to do this project. Any help would be great..

I have researched this stuff a bit, i cant find any good information.

try some FAQs but you're new.. i suggest looking around on the site and get used to it so you kinda know where to find stuff

also try googling for "watercooling how-to"

anyways, just for the basics... you need the following
-waterblocks: cools the processor
-pump: pumps the coolent
-reservoir (res): holds the excess water/coolent
-radiator (rad): cools the water with fans over its fins
-tubing: connects the parts
-coolent: the liquid that cools the waterblocks
-accessories: such as barbs, nd that tightening thing for pipes, etc

lots to learn for u my frend ;)

do you know how many ppl come on here posting "What do I buy", we cant keep repeating ourselves, thats why we've posted stickys of FAQs that explain what to do. Read them, and read other ppls posts. If you have a specific question about a part, or a concept (not 'tell me everything to do, hold my hand, im scared'). we'd be more then happy to help you.

yup

dawgbait, that was what i was explaining to you on aim... you have to do your share of work on research and we can help with other stuff like things you dont understand or whatever.... also google for ''watercooling tutorials'' and look at reviews on certain models and read about them... do enough of that and i ll consider that you have done your research ;)

Ok from what i looked up so far, i am going to be getting the Koolance EXOS (external liquid cooling). I like how that looks.. now all i need is a good CPU block and a VGA block right? I dunno what i am looking for about the VGA one cause i have a GeForce FX 5200 ultra. I am trying to lresearch all this myself. I am just asking for advice cause i dont wanna screw this up and wasted a ton of money..

EDIT: Ok i dont need a CPU block if i get the Koolance EXOS. I just need to find the VGA block.. Sorry i am just trying to get ll this worked out.. lol

so pretty much you DID buy a kit which opposes what you told me... just buy the pump, res, rad, blocks seperately and you're probably gonna get better performance

dont go the easy way out by getting a kit... research a lot before you invest in it so you REALLY know how to use watercooling

good luck

i like that extrenal setup, its just me, But i think i will go with diffrent blocks..

i'm a noob too looking into a water cooling system. do the external cooling kits perform better/worse/same as the internal? i really want everything, including the resevior, inside the pc case.

the external cooling kits only perform as it was designed... most likely designed not the best because they wanna sell low priced kits to make more sales.... so its better to choose good performance parts than a kit with maybe a good rad but bad waterblocks or something... go for total performance

Entirely optional.
yea, you can always do the thing where you use a T joint or something and cut a piece of tubing for that but personally, i think it would be hard for refilling and cleaning out and stuff... you're probably better off getting a reservoir for simplicity but reservoirs can be made... its just gotta be a watertight container that has two proper sized openings

reservoirs also make your system look nice

I disagree, I have a t-line and its easy as sin to purge and to refill, only prob is the bleeding ... but like i've said before, i only intend to refill once in a blue moon

yea, that is kinda hard... but some say that reservoirs do lower the water temps by a few degrees

ok, i sorta edited a pic of your computer and have a layout of how your system MAY look like... its up to you to change things though.... but i only did this because you were whining on aim saying that your case doesnt have enough room :p

you can add more waterblocks if you want, just change the tubing loop

it took some time for me to plan and draw that so if you dont like it, dont go all complainy

anyways, what do the other guys think of the layout?

EDIT- the rad can be inside or outside of the case because theres enough room for it
- i also drew this according to what dawgbait said he will add in the future so theres two extra harddrives becoming 4 and one less cd drive becoming 2

Ditto. My system has been resless since day 1 and I have no plans of adding one.

It's a closed loop. I can't fathom any way that a reservoir could lower water temps.

water does cool in a reservoir if its big enough... or a metal reservoir that has heatsinks on the side and a window... acts like a rad but not really

hmm... why not put TWO rads in there to make it cooler? :D

A second rad would signifigantly resudce flowrates, which in turn would reduce the performance of the CPU block, not a good idea at all.

Yeah, definitely the "not really". Most reservoirs are typically made of some sort of plastic which is a terrible conductor of heat. If anything, the additional flow resistance in the system would outweigh the miniscule additional cooling the res would provice.

so then two rads with two pumps or one more powerful pump

those reservoirs are the ones that are bought... with modding, you can make almost anything you want ;)
