I'm looking to build a custom water loop, it's been a *long* time since I've done one (my P4 2.4C was the last one I water cooled, heh)

I've put together what I think is a sufficient system for cooling an i7 4770k, hopefully delidding it as well for better temps and cooling bare to the die, yes I have experience with bare-die cooling, I water cooled a few Athlon XP's as well.

EK-Supremacy PreciseMount Add-on Naked Ivy (I've read this should be compatible with a Haswell as well)

Bit Fenix Spectre Non-LED Fan Series - All Black 140mm x4 (to replace all fans, in case so they match, not sure what a good performace silent fan is these days)

This would all go in a Fractal Design R4 or a Corsair C70 case, either accommodates a dual 140mm radiator in one way or another, although the C70 would accommodate a second, which would help in the future if I added a GPU to the loop (more on that in a bit).

I'm obviously missing tubing, I had selected some 13mm ID/19mm OD tubing that was on backorder, any recommendations there?

I'm also not planning to upgrading my GPU at this time (I do not game currently) but might in the future and would add a matching 280mm radiator w/ fans and a full-cover GPU block, likely for a GTX760 or 860 in the future or equivalent.

I'm sure I'll have more questions, it's convenient that another user is basically doing a very similar build to my prospective one right now too, I'm following that thread as well.

Here are the prospective components as well:

i7 4770k
ASUS Maximus VI Hero
32GB 4x8GB Corsair Vengeance 1866MHz CMZ32GX3M4X1866C10R
Probably in my Lian-Li A05N; lots of modding to be done here.

Are you planning on any upgrades in the future gpu water block maby ? and what size rad are you using.

Yes, probably in the future, at which time I would add a second radiator to accomodate the GPU.

and what size rad are you using.

In my post is the link directly to the one I was looking at, an XSPC 280mm slim profile radiator.

Anyone else care to chime in? I'm close enough to just buying an ekwb 360 kit and saying to hell with designing my own kit and adding another rad into that kit in the future if I add a GPU to it; but those kits use 3/8in tubing and I've elected for 1/2in which allows for more expandability in the future.

Are you limited to a slim radiator for any reason? Or can you do a thicker one, IE the RX360?

Well I'm changing my case plans to just using my A05N that I've got, which is pretty small overall, so sacrificing slots on the bottom of my mobo for a top-mount rad is not ideal but probably most realistic, I'm probably going to scrap the 5.25" bays as well, an RX360 would be how thick? I can look that up... at work atm heh.

Would definitely go with this:

...and a D5 vario. And a thicker rad if you can.

D5 Vario w/ that res to take into account what? adding more components over time? ability to slow/quiet pump operation?

The RX series rads are about 2.5in thick. I have an A05N and almost water cooled that with plans to put an RX360 on top but outside the case with the fans inside. I thought it would look good if done well.

The D5 is a much stronger pump that can produce much higher pressure. DDC has max flow of 420 liters per hour though i think that rating is limited because of its 3/8 in/out which you would be replacing anyway, but the D5 is 1200 liters per hour. Both res' are 35. The DDC is 74. The Swiftech MCP655 (with speed control) is 77. For 3 dollars more you get a much more kickass pump as well as being able to adjust the speed. The D5 is considerably larger, but would be the last WC pump you would ever have to buy.

I struggled over this for quite a while and ended up just getting the EK 360 HFX kit, if I find that the pump isn't getting the job done I'll just sell it and the res and get a D5/res combo to match.

I totally agree that the D5 is stronger pump and all I'd need is new fittings and tubing to swap it all to 1/2in ID in the future anyway; which I'll probably do if/when I add a new GPU and put it in the loop.

Thanks everyone for the input; very helpful; laziness prevailed.

Maybe I'll build log my A05N w/ triple 360....

id go with 3/8 " tubing over the 1/2" tubing, but that normally comes down to personal preference and look ideals mre than actua performance. Nice that you found what your looking for, i'd jump to a D5 regardless, its the best decision (in my WC loop) that ive made in a LONGGGGGGGGGGGGG time.)
