Water cooling 7970

I am thinking of water cooling my two Sapphire 7970s and had a couple of questions. Looking at the Koolance VID-AR797 and wondering how hard it is to get the shroud off the cards and install the Koolance? Never did this before. Also will the two cards add a significant amount of heat to my loop? I have 1 Black Ice GT Stealth 120 Radiator and a Black Ice GT Stealth 240 radiator in my loop now. They are installed in my Level 10 GT Snow Edition case. Just cooling my 980x ( 1.42V @ 4.4 ) right now. As I said never did water cooling to video cards before and thinking these would be two good cards to try it on. Thanks ahead for any tips.
 
I would expect an increase in loop temperature. might need to upgrade radiators to larger higher flowing or add another pump or upgrade pump. Try with what you have and then decide.
 
I'll be checking youtube for a video as theres always one up there with someone showing how to remove the stock heatsink from the newest graphics cards.

I have 4 EK 7970 water block on the way.
 
You could be ok if you only were adding one 7970 but with 2 7970 you will need more rad surface to cool everything at good temps and not too much noise.
 
Theres pletny of options out there for mounting extra rads on the outside of your case if needed if you cant spring for a new case atm. Personally I'd go 360 rad for just the 2 7970s and a dual or another triple 120 for the cpu. Loop it all together with some quiet fans in push/pull.

My setup is overkill most likely but i have 3 360 rads and a quad 120 rad. :) Well, i like quiet so with low near silent fans i need more surface area to make up for it. Served me well over my quad GTX580s and 990x setup.. now gona be sweet with my quad 7970s and 3960 @ 5Ghz.
 
Thanks for reply's. I have a 360 radiator I can add. Also have extra pump. Just was trying to keep clean look on the Level 10 but I can add it on the top. Will look for instructions for shroud removal.

Just be carefull when its time to yank the heatsink from the card. Yep.. even though you removed all the screws the tight suction seal from the thermal goop on the GPU chip is enough to hold the heatsink on tight most of the time. Just be carefull not to over due it trying to pry it off with your hands as you dont want the heatsink moving around and possably damage any componants that may come into contact with the heatsink if it starts to twist. Usually just lifting on one side of the heatsink for a short period the heatsink will just pop off. Always when it suddenly pops off, it scares the crap out of me! haha.

Take your time and dont miss any screws.. when your done place the same exact screw back into the original holes on the heatsink afterwards.. that way you dont ever loose the screws.

I usually place some clearwarp over the heatsink to protect the original pads on the heatsink so no dust/dirt come into contact.. then when its time to put the heatsink back on the card to resale its an easy job.

Any real difference between the EK and koolance blocks?
 
I like the Koolance block's over the EK's. Koolance has alot smaller fin's for better cooling. I have had Koolance blocks since my nvidia 7950's and been happy with all of them.
 
I would absolutely stay away from EK after the shitty nickel plating they had before, and then they tried to blame on the liquid their users were all using. Even if they say they have fixed the nickel plating, I would never use them again.

Stick with AquaComputer blocks or Heatkiller if they make one.
