I recently added WC for my CPU and hard-drive.
In the past i have left my system on 24/7, almost never shutting it off.

Is this okay now that i have WC?
What if my pump dies, will my CPU fry?

How do you handle this?

When I had watercooling I set my power button to put my PC in hibernate. So when I'm at work all day or before I go to sleep I just push the button so I don't have to worry about the pump failing while i'm not there.
On one of my other systems I had watercooled I ran it almost 24/7 for about a year and the Eheim pump died while I was out one day. Luckily the PC automatically shut down when the CPU reached 80F so it didn't fry.
 
Another alternative is to put a thermal switch attached to your CPU block that is wired into the Green power wire off your PSU. It is essentially a fail-safe when all else don't work. Aqua Computer makes such a device and it is called a TCS (Temperature Controlled System).

Thats a good idea. I might have to make something like that...

 
Or you can just set it in the BIOS like we've said before. All it takes is a reboot, 10 seconds to change the setting, load windows and BAM! your done... better then spending money and waiting for the danm thing to arrive if you ask me :rolleyes:

Well, yes, but is redundant methods of precaution really a bad thing?
Its not like it would cost much to make something like that...

Mine's on 24/7, much to the delight of the local power company. $$$$$$$ But my new Seasonic S12-600 should reduce it some.

yeah, fail safe devices are good to have.

people who have been around here for a while know why i, myself, would feel that way a bit more than most.

that being said, the BIOS level shutoff is USUALLY enough, in MOST situations.

the A-C TCS is just a little extra insurance, that would prevent an accident for most people on here, but would probably not have helped with my own 3 mile island.
 
The TCS I *think* is less than $10 and it is reusable :D The only minor problem is finding a good place to attach it. It even works on BIB setups as well. :p

nu-uh. If you put any AC gear within 10 feet of tubing larger than 8mm a nuclear war will start!!!
 
There's no reason why you can't run 24/7.....and just one more level of protection, open up your case every week or 2 and look for signs of any leaks. An ounce of prevention goes a long ways.

Id think it would be more around 15-20 cents a day running your monitor & computer.
 
Don't be like me and notice a problem really late, like your bay-res being half empty due to a leak. lmfao.
 
By then it's a little late to figure out what was leaking. Then it's a matter of finding out what got leaked on. :eek:
