water colling with less noise

Sounds like a good option if you don't want maximum overclocking capability. Many people own Koolance units and are satisfied with the noise reduction and decent amount of overclocking they can achieve.

if you feel comfortable doing DIY, then by all means do it. you save money and can completly configure the cooling system.

if you dont, then get a koolance. its more expensive and performs less, but its thought-free.

eh, i just got some money from graduation. So, I could DIY, but I am most worried about the pump and how much vibration noise it creates. I really want to find a good 1/2" pump that is quiet. Any recomendations?

eheim 1048 (maybe the 1250)
the swiftec mcp600 (rebranded as a lot of models) is also supposed to be pretty quiet

The 1250 is rather quiet if you do the superglue trick. My mag3 is a little quieter and moves more water.

I would seriously consider 3/8" tubing. I have 1/2" now, and it is a serious PITA for any normal width case.

i disagree, i have 1/2" ID tubing with *no* problems in a normal sized case

as for pump, any of the pumps we use are the LEAST amount of noise generated. I'm partial to hydor pumps and they are all but perfectly silent.

Superglue trick? Clue a fellow in... I've got a 1250 and while it's quiet it seems a little high on the vibration.

The superglue trick is something the aquarium people have been doing for years. You glue the impellor to the magnet. They are separated in order to prevent damage in case of a clog. In our case, the odds of a clog are negligible, and the mechanism just makes noise.

As for 1/2" ID being a PITA, it's not so bad if you only have a CPU block. I used to have CPU, NB, and GPU blocks, and the 1/2" ID got to be a serious pain in my SX835II.

i'm probably going to end up doing a cpu and gpu block with 1/2" tubing. I'm also looking at the DD products they have which arent that expensive at all. For the radiator, Should some Vantec Stealths do the job well?

You sure you're not thinking of one of the other Eheim pumps besides the 1250? The impeller and magnet are all one piece, at least on my 1250.

But the impeller is probably able to rotate some amount on the shaft that it's mounted to, no?

Gotta agree, mine is working great and barely hums. Can't hear it at all when the system is running....

I bought my 1250 about a year and a half ago, and it's impellor and magnet are (were) definitely about to move a little bit independently of each other.
