I've been on Firefox since about the time it came out. I've a marginal system - dual CPU p933, with 512Mb of ECC RAM (bought system in mid 2001 for about $400:) ) .
They will each crunch an 1141 for about 90 points per day each, IF they can get the memory. Up to 120MB of RAM each.
However I've noticed (via task manager) that Firefox, with a bunch of tabs open, may suck up 130mb of RAM and the same of VM, which puts me into paging. Which slows the sytem down.
Since this is my main machine my solution is to shut firefox down occasionally, which seems to keep it under control.
Beat the AUSSIES!!

Fire fox has way too much overhead, and even with the new release new exploits are being found for it on a daily basis. I took it off my machine.

Please don't tell me you're running IE in its stead :p

Opera?

Firefox's memory leaks are a biotch on the SUN's. Wish that would get fixed.

Lol, I like IE. Been computing since 1984, only ever had one virus and that came from an Ad agency when I was doing proofs for them. I'll live with it for now ;)

I'm running firefox right now, but this PC has a gig of ram, so no probs from me on that front. I use IE also, and exclusively at work (ACAD workstation, that sucker has to run when I need it) thank you AVG and Avast for your free software :)

oh, if it folds full time, shutdown all other programs, that's pretty basic though :)

*nods blankly*

Okay. Sure.

*goes and takes hit off scotch*

*stops caring*

I use firefox and if you dont use the tabs for your browsing it works very well.....dont care for the tabbed feature myself anyway!
As far as it being secure on the net.....hell you roll the dice no matter what!!!!
It is definatly faster than IE.
Just another one of those personal prefs I guess!

i use firefox and tabs... love it...will use it...

yeah it looks like it is taken up alot of mem and vm... that sucks but i still like it

Opera all the way, the only time I fire up the evil "E" is to check for Microsoft updates.

Get the Opera 8 beta, subscribe, say "Buh Bye!" to the exploit de jour... :D

Not to say FireFox is completely evil, it does certainly like its ram, and lots of it... But on a reasonable PC (1 GB of RAM) its okay as long as you aren't running large units. Those QMD's and such coupled with a few open tabs and I can see how you're headed for disaster. The only real knock of I have on it though is when it hits a where it hits a java applet. Those cause all sorts of problems and steal tons of cycles.

Good info. I use Firefox and IE, probably 90% Firefox with lots of tabs and on two different machines. One machine only has 512 mb so I'll have to look into what it's doing to fah. I like Firefox but I can't have it slowing down the client.
