SpaceX is up for another stab at a controlled soft landing on a drone platform in the Atlantic. Elon Musk puts the odds on this second attempt at an even 50/50 and we’ll either be witnessing history being made or be treated to an excellent fireworks display at SpaceX expense. Either way, you are sure to enjoy the show. NASA and SpaceX will be streaming the entire event viewable in the embedded article beginning at 5:50 PM EST.

SpaceX equipped this rocket with more hydraulic fluid, which was the main problem the last time, but the first stage of the rocket has to go through carefully choreographed aerial maneuvers on a flight path that Musk says is even more tricky than the last one.

Today’s launch of the DSCOVR mission is scrubbed due to loss of the Air Force’s Eastern Range radar, which is required for launch. Earliest next opportunity is tomorrow, Monday, Feb. 9th at 6:07pm ET.

I hope they succeed! I really root for Elon and cheap space flight.

Was just reading about the Apollo missions back in the 60s. They had a few possible moon lander designs, one being a big rocket that you land on the moon. They deemed it too hard to do, and that was a project that employed 400,000 people and ended up with a total budget/expense of $170 billion in today's dollars.

So yeah, mad props to SpaceX crew for trying this.
