Warning: Pny Rma Process

I had to RMA two of my PNY 6800gt's about three weeks ago. This is not a knock on the quality of PNY's cards at all, but I've been waiting for my requesite two weeks and I'm not getting my cards, so I call them.
They are out of stock. PNY MAKES these cards, and they don't have any. I'm told to wait (An unspecified amount of time, mind you) for PNY to get them and ship them to me.
I can't believe a company can do business like this. Just a bit of a warning before anybody goes and makes a purchase.
None of us knows anybody that works for PNY, do we? There's got to be something I can do, I have a hard time believing that they really don't have any of their own cards, just for this reason.

Shortage of something but I dont see how they can function without backups on hand. They have to expect something like this and not leave their customers hanging. I would definitely knock them one on ResellerRatings.com for this shoddy news.

Didnt have any of these probs with my BFg return this week.

It could be worse - I just had to RMA 10 Epox motherboards (some kt400 thing) because they all had leaky capacitors. It took them 45 days to get them back to us (we overnighted the parts to them).

...and when they finally arrived, 4 of the boards they sent us were DOA. 2 of them were visibly broken - it looked like somebody had run an awl through one of the caps.

When we contacted them about the problem, they wanted us to send them the serial numbers of -every- board they sent us. The asshats can't even track what they're sending customers.

If I remember right, both The Register and TheInq had some reports in December/early January that nVidia was having trouble producing 68xx class GPUs fast enough to keep up with demand; actually, it might have been that TSMC was having the issues producing enough for nVidia. Something like this could easily cause a problem for PNY. Just one possibility.

Also, I find it very unlikely that PNY is making their Geforce cards. For example, their 6800NU card is a reference design, and look almost exactly the same as BFG's 6800OC, even down to the color of the PCB's; only visible difference is the heatsink/fan chosen. I'd guess that production with a number of vendors such reference designs is subcontracted out.

I understand supply problems, but I just don't think a company should run like this. They've lost my business, and if I can help it, the business of the over 50 clients I represent in the Bay Area here.
It's all I can do, but it's something.

Wow...its a good thing I sold my PNY 6800GT for an MSI 6800GT before anything went bad on it.
