Warm MSI 3870x2 $159.99 AR, w/RB6 vegas2

Single-slot 4850 beats it and can be found for the same price with other games. As you mention, only reason I can see someone still wanting this card is if they already own one for X-fire.

RB6 is a bonus, but I hardly think an included game is worth getting the slower card. If you're comparing two similar cards from different brands, maybe...

IMHO this may be supported in linux while the 4850 is not. Anyone know?

4850/4870 (in crossfire too!) is supported in linux, although you'll most likely have to manually install the drivers. see here:

3870 is supported in linux, but not in crossfire, which means 3870x2 is unlikely (you'd be running it in 1x mode, which is the equivalent of a 3850 (since it uses gddr3 instead of gddr5 like normal 3870s)

just as an aside, the 4850 / 4870 were surprisingly supported in linux on launch day. some oems even advertised linux support on the box!! completely unheard of!! admittedly, performance with the drivers (then catalyst 8.6) was equal to 3870 performance.

as for the deal, i'd say lukewarm. good if you're looking for a second 3870x2, i suppose. but honestly, the only 3870x2 worth buying is the asus one with 4dvis. with any other one you're probably better off with the 4850.
