Enter the Crysis: Warhead Sweepstakes. You might actually win a PC that is able to play the damn game at something larger than Quake 2 resolutions. I don’t have anything to do with this, but it allowed me an opportunity to be a smartass and get a punch in like all your HardForum goers that keep screaming “CRYSIS IS POORLY CODED!” We can hope for two things though. Warhead runs better as promised. And the second two thirds of the game don’t suck.

And since you guys crapped my Nehalem thread with this yesterday, I thought we would give you one of your own. Let the flaming begin! No, not really, keep it civil or we ban your ass.

Yeah sorry bout that Kyle. I shouldn't have even mentioned Crysis. I think PC gamers get frustrated as soon as anyone brings up Crysis. Anyways I would love to have a nice fast (free) PC that can run Crysis the way its meant to be played. Thank you for this!

Prizes: Sponsor will award four (4) Grand Prizes consisting of One (1) Limited-Edition Crysis Warhead® PC (Approximate Retail Value (ARV): $800.00) and one (1) copy of Crysis:
Warhead for PC (ARV: $29.99). The total ARV of Grand Prize is $3,319.96. There is no cash substitute and prizes cannot be redeemed for cash. No more than the stated number of prizes will be awarded.

So only grand prizes to be awarded? What the hell is up with that? At least toss out a few copies of the game aside from the grand prize winners. No listing of the PC specs either. I sure as hell hope it's something more than those minimum required parts that Crytek has mentioned in a case with a purtied up paint job. Wonder if it'll have the chutzpah to play FarCry2 :p

So the approximate value is $800? Anyone else wondering what kind of computer they're planning on giving us with that amount of money? Well it can't be something from a pre-builder. Maybe it'll be one of those rumored EA built PCs. Either way I'm not expecting much out of it, but free is free. If I win it I can strip it for parts and then sell the rest if anything.

Ahh it's to receive "new and updates from..." spam! no thanks though sounds like a cool contest. Cant wait to play warhead though even if it's only for the Gfx, crysis was beautiful

Boo not open to us Canucks, more reasons to hate Crysis?! Hopefully this version has some depth to it and will be interesting to see what changes they have made regarding so called performance increases.

Is crisis even any good?
Seems like all these new games make everything lag, but the gameplay in TF2 or Half Life 2 is better anyway.

Even my X2 4400(and before that ole 3200+) and X800 get good FPS at decent res in source games.

CRYSIS IS POORLY CODED

sry couldnt resist.
i actually liked Crysis single player. gameplay was above average, gfx were crazy; overall left me wanting more, aka Warhead. btw i couldnt stand Farcry's pisspoor gameplay and extremely inconsistant AI.

I love the way everyone switches from "O noz, Kyle is posting news!" to "w00t,fr33 PZ, Kyle r0x!"

Its not bad. Not the best FPS in world, but its not the worst either. The mutliplayer suckers and the end of the game is pretty meh-worthy. The more free-roaming areas of the game are the best.

most often used set of words on [H]? (family feud)

-Crysis is poorly coded
-micro-stuttering
-cpu bottle neck

Ok not trying to thread crap here... but I'm going to...

j/k

But seriously it seems like the computer is going to have to cost more than that!

1. computer can play Crysis at better than Q2 res.
2. computer costs $800

Those 2 don't seem to be compatible.

I'm guessing # 1, means play Crysis at crappy Q2 res. and/or all quality settings turned down.

You need nearly a $300+- videocard alone to play Crysis well. Then factor in th rest of the system and I don't see them having an $800 PC.

What do you consider well? My 3870 can play most of the game at all high no AA/no AF at 1440x900. I consider that very well. I bet if I picked up a 4870 or 9800GTX+ I'd have no problems running the entire game at all high or above at my res.

I want to play it on one of my 22" (1680x1050) or 24" (1920x1200) flatscreens with 4xMSAA and 16AF.

AND I want more than 30fps average... I prefer the average around 60+ fps, so the min. doesn't hit 30fps or below ever.

Then yes you will need a more expensive system. The term "well" is highly subjective though. So what you consider well and what someone else considers well are two completely different things.

depends on whether or not "$800 PC" includes a monitor or any other peripherals, or if it's just the case and guts. 800 bucks distributed wisely and sans display can easily buy you a boring case and competent PSU with a fast dual core, 4 gigs, and a 4870.

The Crysis game dropped sound all the time no matter what sound setting I tried. Hardware mode or software mode, with a Audigy 2zs. So I finally gave up on the game after even reverting to onboard sound with no luck.

maybe the new game , if I want to drop money on it again, will work good.

odds are not in favor of it.

Never really heard of that issue before... sounds like an IRQ problem to me.... what other devices are using the same IRQ as the sound card?

It would be really interesting to see what the config is and also consider this, the custom paint job alone could be half of the value. So you are probably looking at an low end dual core machine with integrated garbage.

Key things to remember about warhead when it fails to sell well :

1. Its all piracy's fault , all of us are are total pieces of shit that fail to buy any games therefore we should all open a paypal account to Cevat Yerli and donate lots of guilty dollars to him.

2. Its our fault for having crappy hardware to run Crysis, each one of you should have a Skulltrail with a Intel Core2 Extreme QX9775 , 8 gigs of ram , 3 SLI GTX 280's. Thats what the game was meant to play on you jerks!

3. If I didn't mention it , piracy is the reason the first game didn't do well , not because it was poorly coded to run anything but the most monster of systems, nothing to do with mounds of bugs as well or the crappy multiplayer which bored you enough to consider suicide soon afterward. Also nothing to do with the totally friggin aweful , recycled story line that we have all heard billions of times over, with recycled characters from Aliens.

Just remember its not Crytek's fault...ITS YOURS.

it might not be a cutting edge pc, but it would still be cool to win. Then my 7 y/o son could have his own rig. Cool!

Uhm....Owned? LOL

I entered contest, free is free...lets hope.

I liked the single player Crysis a lot actually, but witnessed the lack of smoothness and boring multi-p.

Lets x our fingers this release will be good. *side note- If they would drop BF3 soon, that would be a new cash cow with....wait for it.....expansions! I've seriously been waiting too long for this damn game. :(

Don't forget no matter how much it sells 8x (or whatever the number he spouted out was) that number of people "stole" the game and "stole" money from Crytek.

I avoided Crysis like the plague...

I have Kyle's thoughts on it to thank for that!

QFT. You wanna know something pretty hilarious? I watched a video showcasing Crysis a couple months before the 8800Ultra's came out that makes me kinda think there may be some kind of conspiracy going on with Crysis. In the video Cevat Yerli is playing Crysis on a big screen HDTV (not sure which brand). He is being interviewed and he is answering questions about Crysis. He says the HDTV is running at 1080p and that he is running on an unreleased nVidia video card that should be available at the time Crysis is released. I am assuming he meant the 8800Ultra. He is asked what settings he is running on and he says that he is running Very High settings in DX10. Of course the interviewer says omg that looks beautiful blah blah blah...the funny thing is that the game was just flying. The framerate had to have been well over 60fps average. In that very same video Cevat Yerli says that gamers can expect to run the game @ 1600x1200 everything set Very High in DX10 mode and get an average of 60fps on a 8800GTS 640MB. Funny how things have changed since then. I have been unable to locate this video anywhere. It is almost as if it vanished. The video did exist and I remember showing it to buddies of mine when I was doing alot of Crysis hype.

He actually said that for every 1 person who paid for the game 20 people pirated it.

Ah, yes, thank you. That means he thinks 60 million people pirated the game (over 3 million copies sold). Wouldn't that make it like the most popular game ever? Can 60 million people in world even play Crysis?

I think I recall a video like that a while ago, or at least hearing about it. Same with those DX9 vs DX10 videos. Has anyone managed to get the game to look close to those DX10 vids?
