wardriving!!!

I got my wireless card today, and then went out to go wardriving. I had a great time, and found some nice networks, with some really fast internet connections !!!

I'm actually in front of someone's house !

It's kind of funny that I'm actually on someone's network.

why would it be illegal if they leave their network open?
it's only illegal if he hacked in or if he had malicious intent when he got on the network. if he only got on to browse the web with no ill intentions then it's not illegal.

Actually it is illegal, "intent" or not. It is not his network, he's not paying for it, he got no permission to enter it and last but not least, he didn't accidentaly jump networks from his to someone elses. He actually went out looking for open networks.

I wish they'd close down the networks here...I keep jumping from mine to someone else's because they left it at the default name (as did a friend of mine who I connected to over the weekend).

I'm pretty sure it's legal to use someone's network as long as it's open and you're not using it for illegal stuff. It would be the home owner's responsibility to put up signs saying something like "Don't use my network" before it would be illegal to do so.

Going around cracking WEP keys and using networks to send spam and kiddie porn definitely is illegal though.

Using someone's network just because you can is like stealing their car if they left the keys in it. Just because you can, doesn't give you the right. It is illegal, it is theft and it against the forum rules.
