Warcraft 2 vs Warcraft 3

Anyone else think Warcraft 2's story was better than Warcraft 3's? Vanilla Warcraft 3's story was alright but the story in the Frozen Throne I did not like at all. Warcraft 2 was a "darker" game and had an excellent and straightforward story that was focused on battles between the Azeroth nations and the Orc clans whereas Warcraft 3 focused on the stories of a bunch of characters and their skirmishes. I also didn't like the introduction of so many new factions as well as the large amount of new alliances and betrayals. I thought it was cooler when it was just a story about one giant war and the battles between the Orc and Humans.

One more thing I did not like about Warcraft 3 was some of the units. The units in Warcraft 2 seemed to be meaner and had cooler voices and portraits. Don't get me wrong, I consider both to be excellent games but just did not like some of things in Warcraft 3.

Ya know, I tried like mad to get into the single player of Frozen Throne but I just couldn't. I would get through a huge part of one campaign and something would happen where I needed to do a clean install or switched my comps or something. The second or third mission for the elf campaign was ridiculous on hard.

Warcraft 2 is Warcraft. Warcraft 3 is Warcraft: Appeals to Children version.

Warcraft 3 is a good game, but it is too kiddy-oriented.

Am I the only one who didn't pay any attention to the story in Warcrafts 1 and 2? I thought that pre-WoW, the games lent themselves to an in depth story line as much as Minesweeper does, though they were brilliant games.

I agree, I loved WC2 a lot more. I'm not really sure what it was but it just seemed more brutal I guess. I loved how the knights and paladins had the deep voices that sounded like they were going to rip your head off.

A group of 9 bloodlusted ogres in wc2 was a force to be reckoned with! (Or was it six?)

Warcraft 3 was more fun though. I haven't played for more than 3 years but I would totally get back in if they made a fourth installation.

I enjoyed both but I also thought that WC3 lost some of the edge that WC2 had. WC2 was grittier with a tighter focus on battles and war. WC3 did tweak the interface nicely, though.

*shurgs* I thought WC3's story was pretty good. The way the campaign leads into each other was nicely done, each races story was interesting to me, particularly the Orcs with their attempt to escape humanity and find their own lands.

Frozen Throne... yeah I could have probably done without.

It was 9, that was the max per group you could select

I loved the story in both, and actually liked the story better in WC3 to WC2, seeing as WC2 didn't really tell a whole lot of story in the game unless you read the book ... either way WC3 really opened up alot of explations to other beings in the world instead of the current conflict and really paved the way for future lore

Oh and I think the WC lore is some of the best in games these days compared to what we get it actually does seem like a "world" to me.

WC2 will always be far better than WC3. 9 bloodlusted ogre's followed by 9 dragon takes rocks all. I am very good at WC2 back in the day I would win like 90% of the time online even if my team mates sucked it didn't matter.

But WC3 I lose like 90% of the time the damn upkeep stealing your gold blows it prevents you from winning by having the largest army, and the hero leveling up thing is lame to me because its like a battle of who can get there hero to level 6 fastest.

I still like WC3 but I just think that WC2 was and is the best.......but Tower defense is great in WC3.

Let me get this straight, you prefer WC2 for being a less strategic, more brute force based real time STRATEGY game?

Yep. That's what I'm saying. The knights in WC2 sounded badass and had those mean looking portraits. The heroes they added in WC2 later on were cool too.

I believe Starcraft did the interface first

WC3 PERFECTED that interface. There are so many little keyboard shortcuts and que'ing opions that SC doesn't have that makes WC3 so much easier to control.

I enjoyed playing both, but I was not a fan of the heroes in WarCraft III. StarCraft was more of my cup of tea.

Personally, I liked WC3 more, due to the story. However, I liked the graphics of WC2 more, it looked medieval and serious while WC3 had cartoony graphics and that was a real turn off for me. But I loved the story, albeit the human campaign made me want to punch arthas.

Yes me lord....Work work.

Not so much that it's less strategic as it is a different type of strategy both WC2 and WC3 have their own strategies to win, WC2's is build up an army and attack and WC3 is build up a hero and attack, I like attacking with huge armies not a hero with a few other men. It’s a pain in the ass to build your town and have your hero out killing trolls and frogs to gain experience points and it is impossible to win without leveling up your hero and most of the game becomes a who can get to level 6 the fastest war.
