Looking to upgrade my Mac Mini and want to get the best possible CPU. I'm willing to pay $400 inc shipping to the UK, which with Global EMS should be a pittance.

FYI I believe the CPU's in the mac mini are soldered to the motherboard....

if you've got skills, can you solder it off? I know someone who can solder things off of anything. including those vip622 receiver chips. Hope this doesnt count as thread crapping. Maybe the info can be used well for the OP just in case he didnt know.

Nope, you are thinking of the MacBook and MacBook Pro. The Mini is easily upgradable and has a standard socket. Check out the Mac section in the Xtremesystems forum for a step by step guide on updating the Mini.
