want to set up an FTP server but im a n00b

im a complete n00b at this but i want to give it a try and was wondering if anyone had any links or guides or something to help me set up an FTP server,

linux or windows?

oh you're a n00b. well, for windows, look at ws-ftpd. there's a free one, I think, and it works fine.

If you are wanting to run a windows based ftp server which i'm guessing is the case get Serv-U ftp it's really easy to setup does almost everything for you only think you really have to setup is user accounts and dir. permissions and it has a wizard that asks you questions on what you want to do.

If linux GLFTPD is the only one that is worth it's salt

is there a free ftp program thats easy to use? I noticed the Serv-U is like 70 bux

EDIT:
Nevermid that, i picked up Serv-U 5.0. Still sketchy on what im doin with it. Ill have to read the manual
