Want to network my Desktop and Laptop

I currently have my desktop(Win vista Pro) hooked to my DSL modem I got from my ISP. I was just given a Laptop(WinXP pro) and I'd like to hook them together so they can both access each other and both access the internet.

What hardware do I need? Both have NIC card on them.

Easiest way to go about is pick up any ol' router at your favorite B&M store. run one network cable from the modem to the "uplink" port on your router, then run network cables to your computers.

simple and done.
