want an e6850 today??

We are all waiting for the July 22nd Intel price drops. (well I'm not) :p

ya i just bought one for $300. How much would i have paid on July 22nd.. BTW that $266 price is bulk order. I paid $300 for it now, so what are people waiting for?

Does "sold out" mean anything to you? The one you linked it way too expensive....search for E6850 and click on the first one that comes up. That's the price in one week and they're not selling those before that.

That one at buy.com is way too much $$$.
I saw them at another place for $286. (e6850)

i doubt itll be cheaper than 289$ for e6850. and ive been here waiting for like 2 weeks.. when its been available online

$266.00 should be individual pricing..thats how it worked out last time.....A quad for $266.00 is worth the wait..
so I'm waiting the extra 9 days to save $50.00..Ive been waiting 4 months for the Q6600 price drop.., 9 more days wont kill me :)

eh i dont really want a QUAD now. I think ill be fine with my E6850. ill wait a year or two and see what CPU is out there. by then we'll probably have OCTA-CPU's running at 5.0ghz

i wouldnt hold my breath for a quad at 266.
thats bulk pricing. they will retail around the 290 mark.
the e6850s are supposed to be the same price, so anyone getting one for 289 - 300 is getting a fine price.

I highly doubt we will see the prices drop on these ones. they arent even officially released yet. the prices you are seeing are the prices for next week. I'm quite sure of that.

you may get lucky and get a quad for 280, but you'll be hard pressed to find cheaper than that.

I understand your point, but when the prices went down on the E6600's they were priced $226.00 per 1000 also ..and they sold for $226.00 each....so I'm pretty confident that the Q's will be the same

if your seriously planning on keeping your next cpu for 2 years you may want to reconsider your choice.
you yourself said that we may be running octacores by then. Don't you think that if octacores will be in use, a quadcore would go a long way compared to a dual?
Games that will be dropping this year will fully take advantage of 4 cores. any kind of video editing is much quicker on a quad, and you can multitask till you dont know what to do with yourself.

I agree that a quad is not really necessary right now, but i do believe that it will go a long way in a year from now, if not 6 months from now.
I thought about going the dual core route again, but i can't justify it. the quad will be so usefull for me, i can't fathom upgrading without getting one.

once you've tried a quad you would understand. its incredible.

okay i have a point but idk if its true so give me some impact on it. since the e6600 isnt really a "true quad" and no programs really ultilize quad is there a point. the way i think about it that when the time comes when programs are made for quad core and stuff the q6600 probably be like a pentium 4 is now,am i right in a way kinda?

I understand what you're saying. Froma gamers standpoint, a dual core is more than enough right now. If new games come out that support more than 2 cores (and no, one game does not count), then quad cores might be cheaper again or there could be a q8800 or something for the same price as the q6600 right now. Totally understandable.

Some people though use the Q6600 not only for games but other tasks and that's where it shines.

Folding is one of the tasks where a Q6600 shine and that's why I'm eagerly awaiting the price drop to buy one :)

ill try and pick up a e6850 tomorrow on that site and sure i do some photoshop not hardcore just making fun of ppl and my pent.D can do it fine.

yea they just shipped my order at 2pm PST, i placed it around 11am PST.. not bad.. $300 bucks total :)

I reckon you have done well madmax!

I second that!

i see your point. core2quad isnt 4 cores on one die, but that doesnt mean its not a true quad.
Either way, i think there will be games that utilize quad sooner than you think. Unreal, Crysis, Bioshock, HL2EP2, Alan Wake. thats just what i can think of off the top of my head.
if you are someone who can afford to upgrade every year or more, then dont go with a quad unless you will use it now (there are reasons to get one). But if your upgrade paths usually have 1.5 - 2 year gaps, then heavily consider a quad as it will be usefull later on.

Only if you think 1,000 unit pricing is considered "bulk."

i called fry's and they have all of the new processors. the guy was trying to put it on hold for me to come pick up but the system won't let them sell it yet :( i'm guessing they will go on sale this weekend, probably on sunday.

Which Frys?

think I should return this E6600 I haven't opened yet from frys and grab an E6850 for 40 bucks more?

not sure if my mobo supports the 1333mhz fsb though.

What mobo do you have?

Also probably since most of the overclocking I have seen on the E6850 is sick I would give it a try. I have one that does 3.6 at 1.24-1.26v on air and 4ghz stable at 1.312v under phase cooling, but its an E0 stepping ES.

DFI Infinity P965

on the DFI forums there is talk that it does work, but no one knows.. so I'll be the one that figures it out I suppose. Most of the DFI overclocking community is taiwanese... and reading their forums is... challenging... basically I see "P965" something something something "E6850" something something "smiley" something something something, then a lot of exclaimation marks, and a cpu-z screen full of something something.

i called 2 fry's in the west la/valley area and both of the stores had the new processors in stock already after the guy on the phone looked in the back. i bet all of the fry's b&m already have them but not for sale yet.

the e6750, the only one i asked about, is priced in the system as 209.99$.

It looks like people are buying them now. Doesn't that mean that they've been released?

No, online retailers don't follow the strict PLU guidelines from the manfacturers as retail stores (frys) do. This is due to them factoring shipping time in. Currently (as of yesterday evening) fry's has them in stock, but will not sell.

Are any online or b&m stores actually shipping the new cpu's such as the e6850?

7/24

well, we might as well then wait until the following friday to see if they have any very small price drops on the new chips in the b&m newspaper ad.
