I am looking for something simple and effective security for keeping my coins off line in a cold storage. Any suggestions?

For what coin(s)? Most, if not all, coins have a paper wallet option.

For cold storage you'll also want a fridge? Or am I missing something here?

Well, he's only looking to keep wallets for two different coins. $100 for something to replace a couple of pieces of paper seems borderline retarded.

I thought the same way too. I had my 1500ish XRP in it when it was at ~.25 well now its at ~$1 now that ledger nano is worth its price

I bought a ledger nano s.

I've not tried a trezor, but the idea that the Ledger supported more coins seemed to make it the winner.

What I didn't see anywhere in the reviews I read was that the Ledger nano s only supports four coins at a time. You can uninstall and install the particular wallet apps you want, as often as you want, but only four different wallets at a time. Seems like an important point to note, and makes me wonder if the reviews I read were even legitimate, since they did nothing except sing the praises of either device while linking to their amazon affiliate link...

However,

You don't lose your coin while uninstalling the app, it's held in the blockchain ledger - so it's not that big of a deal, but it is a slight pain to be juggling apps to access your crypto wallets. I guess that's why people buy multiple ledgers.

I'm glad to have a ledger at the end of the day. My 24 word unique seed key lets me lose or break my device, buy a new one at any point in the future, and access my crypto without any issue.

So long as I have my 24 word seed key - I'm golden to restore at will. I should probably put a copy of that seed key at the Bank.

A paper wallet is no different then what a hardware wallet does at the end of the day. A hardware wallet is convenient as are paper wallets if used appropriately.

Having said that, I own a Trezor, Nano S, a custom built hardware wallet and a variety of paper wallets. :)

Create the wallet, save the public key, dump the private key. Send all coins to the public key and check balance with the block explorer.

Anytime you need to use your coins import your private key into a wallet.

Then destroy the wallet.dat when you’re done
