OK so i was playing UT all last night and everything was running perfect. couple hour's not a single hick up. anyway i decide to go to bed. before i go to bed i closed everything but MIRC and started a download. 701mb in .tar format. It was a movie. anyway at that point i shut off my monitor and went to bed. Now i woke up like an hour ago and i look at the front of my case and the green light is blinking its not solid. so i turn on my monitor and its a blue screen that comes up with one line of text that says "C(a bunch of #'s that i didnt write down) unknown errror." anyway im like "ok ive never seen that before lets restart and see what happends? So i restart and i get my bios screen. it goes to detect my serial ATA raid 0 config and cant find either drive. It then gives me a error message

"Hardware initiate failed, Please check device!!!" under that it says
"bios may be not installed" <~~~ exactly as i have it there.

so im about to go through easy flash again and reload my bios. Then i was going to go in and reinstall my SATA drivers. I dont want to reformat cause this same thing happend before. Read below.

this same thing happend before only i dont think i got the error screen and the blinking light. It seemed like it wasnt detecting my drives so i ended up moving them to my old system. When i connected them to my old system And i pulled them up in windows as slave drives i tried to go into them (to get the info i needed from them) and it said "the disk is not formatted would you like to formatt now?" it also said each drive was like 5-8 gigs in size when in reality it should have been like 50-80 gigs each. anyway to make a long story short i reformatted and lost everything. Put them back in my machine and everything was golden. I was a little upset but didnt think it would happen again.

I have norton antivirus 2004 and i have Norton internet security with firewall on. The only thing that was in common was the movie i downloaded. I downloaded it one time, unzipped it and played it. so it was a valid movie. but in the first time it happend i this problem happend like a day later. In this new scenerio its not even unzipped yet and happend over night.

i have an asus a8v deluxe and a 3500+ with a bfg 6800 ultra and corsair 3200 ddr mem and a 520 w power supply. it was overclocked, but to nothing unstable. 225x11 with the agp/pci lock enabled. Its a beta bios 1005.21.

any idea's?

P.S. you can hear a wierd noise coming from the drives. I got it both times. You dont hear the noise when your in windows and everything is fine. Its hard to describe but its almost like a screeching sound. Not hugely noisey, but definately something that should not be there.

UPDATE:

Reinstalled motherboard drivers. still no change. still get same error message about bios. do hard drives have bios's?

Not quite sure how to go about and reinstall sata divers. This usually only happends when installing windows. Right now tho none of my Sata drives are being detected. Can i still go through and install those drivers? I dont have any IDE hard drives in this machine, but im about to go buy one incase some crap like this happends again. Ill keep all my semi important info on a more reliable IDE drive. all my really important stuff is on the computer im on right now so i didnt lose anything super serious, but i still would like piece of mind.

run memtest and see if teh ram is being teh gey, otherwise backit up and reformat

You should run you HDD manufacturers Diagnosis to make sure it is not the problem. Since you say they are making funny sounds.

Also to make it easier use the ultimate boot cd. It has all the tests you will need. I hope :)

OK thanks for the suggestions. Mem test and prime 95 where run many times no problem with my memory. They are corsair 3200xl memory sticks. its definately motherboard/driver/harddrive related.

I broke down and decided to buy an IDE harddrive for this computer. I reinstalled windows on this new harddrive and im typing from it now perfectly fine. Computer seems to be pretty stable.

:::New Problem:::

Now that im booting to the IDE drive my Sata drives dont show up as a selectable boot device. If i go into the hard drives section of my bios it does show the raid array there. I can select it and then go into the boot devices and it is listed there, but then the IDE drive is missing. any idea's there? IM also trying to see my sata raid config as a secondary drive but when i go into my computer its not showing the drives there, and also if i go into computer management its not showing the drives there either. Any idea why this could be happening? how can i get access to my Raid array so i can copy the info i need from it and reformat?

any help here would be greatly appriciated.

well this was rather easy to fix, all i had to do was install the SATA drivers for windows and with a simple reboot it seemed to have fixed teh problem. Im thinking the problem could be steming from overheating...

Heres what i mean.

WTF.jpg

whats wierd is all my other temps are perfect, but my hardrives where hot as i dont know what. I had all 3 one on top of the other,s o this might have contributed to the problem. I separated them and now put a fan to cool them. now one sits at 23 degrees and the other sits at 30 at idle. Load are around 40 or with UT2004 running in window mode for about 10 minutes.
