piece of hardware before I put this new system together. What I would like are some opinions on something. Do you think I should wait for the 64X2's or should I just throw my FX-55 in my new system? Here's what I have so far.

MSI Neo4/SLI
2 X MSI NX6800GT's
2 X 512 Corsair Twin XMS PC3200 DDR 400 @ 2.2.2.5
PC Power & Cooling Turbo-Cool 510 Express / SLI
2 X 37 Gig WD Raptors
2 X 74 Gig WD Raptors
AMD FX-55
BenQ DVD+RW with Lightscribe
Liquid Cooled

Not going to get into all of the other stuff, mostly drive coolers and LCD's and lots of other cosmetic stuff.

I do a lot of gaming, but I also like to have mulitple apps open all at once. TV, Dreamweaver, Photoshop CS, SmartFTP, Outlook, Firefox, WinMX, Xfire, Weatherpulse and Nero Showtime. That's what I normally have open when I'm working. I know the 64X2's kick ass in multi-tasking and I do notice a performance hit on my FX chip when having all of these apps open at once. I've also read that you wont really see a difference in gaming between the FX-55 and the duals. So, considering all of the above, do you think I'd be better off with the current cpu I have? or should I go for the duals?

I'd personally wait for the dual core .... just for the facts that you will be spending close to what a dual core costs by buying that FX-55 anyway, and the dual cores indeed are supposed to rock when it comes to multitasking...

Just my $0.02

I already have an FX-55.
:D

oops... I guess I didn't read your original post good enough...

You could sell your FX-55 to me for *real* cheap and then get the dual core... lol :D

Hehe, sorry, not going to get rid of it, but I do have a 3800+ that I'd be willing to get rid of.

I would stick with the FX-55 and see what happens with some of the new stuff comming out for skt. 939. Then after you see the benchmarks you can sell the FX-55 and buy the next CPU.
