Wait or Buy i7 920?

what about the UD5?

I'm almost positive you won't take full advantage of the classified. Especially on air. I would go with something a bit cheaper tbh.

How about the EVGA X58 3X SLI?

Can anyone tell me the difference in that and the LE edition?

It seems like it would provide me with the exact same things the classified would (that I need) but £100 cheaper.

The 3X SLI has less robust power management, a slightly different CPU socket, and 16-16 or 16-8-8 PCI distribution. It was the original X58 board released by EVGA and is an excellent and stable board. It is slightly less OC-able.....but if you use air cooling it will be fine.

The LE has different power management and cooling solutions.
The TR designation notes a less robust warranty.
You'd have to go the EVGA forums and inquire about other variences.

I had the X58 SLI before my Classified and it was a great board.

Well I can either get the 3x SLI (system would cost £900) or the classified (system would cost £1000).

My only doubt is that the heatsink on the 3x SLI (and maybe the classified)'s voltage regulator or whatever it's called will make it hard to install a TRUE heatsink.

Especially if I want to have two fans on the TRUE rather than one, it looks like it would only just fit or wouldn't fit at all.

Personally I just bit the bullet and am upgrading my pc from a core2duo to the i7 platform. Newegg open box deals were too good to pass up! My reasoning is that the i5 motherboards will essentially be priced around the same range :)

Well coincidentally and unfortunately, my current PC just decided to die on me lol.

I suspect the psu, it won't power up at all. Which means I have to spend even more money for a second PSU to keep this system working as well as building my i7 system.

What system do you have now? Mine is in my sig. I just built an i7 rig for my bro to be used as a hackintosh to run his photo apps. (adobe cs4, lightroom etc) this was on raid 0 Intel SSD drives. I first installed windows 7 so I could run core temp, real temp and prime 95. to properly stress test it and monitor temps before running OSX. its a fast system but I honestly don't feel a difference with my rig. and I use non raided 7200rpm seagate drives and Vista on a 3.5ghz q6600.

For what I do there is just no difference at all.(game, run a VM that I surf the web with etc) for things that require any kind of rendering his i7 should be at least 30% faster. which can work out to be minutes or seconds, depending on what you are doing. So for me personally an i7 would be a waste of $ it cant noticeabley improve the things I do. my CPU is not the bottleneck in my system by any stretch, and when it is I'm sure 6 core chips will be the norm.

Everyone agrees that if you already have a Q9450 or 9550 there is no reason to get an i7.

My system is a E6400 at 2.8. I'm looking for huge gains. :D

Do the current programs you use need the CPU power? If its work related, will it increase your productivity?

You said you were happy with your PC as it is, so why upgrade?

Anyway, to answer your original question, if your going to upgrade from gulftown to sandbridge within the year its released, which i think would be a waste...then id personally go with an i7 now, then sandbridge when its released...thats considering money isnt an issue as you said.
